Same here, East Tennessee, even my car in the driveway. Using Win7/IE9. Nice mapping app, going into my Favorites.

And speaking of strange town names. I live just north of Joliet Illinois. Of course the town next door is Romeoville. And then downstate a little we have Normal Illinois. Been there, it's not.

Google Earth has a red car on my drive............... I asked the missus what was going on whilst I was at work?... Anyway, the red car is from the previous owners, we have lived here nearly 10 years now.

Google Street View used to show my best friends truck parked in front of my house while my own was strangely absent.

Anyway, the red car is from the previous owners, we have lived here nearly 10 years now. Google seems to get updated aerial photos every year to year and a half. At least in the area where I live. We are now on our second set of street views since Google started showing them a few years ago.

Street View cars do not come anywhere near our area after several complaints on what they showed.... One camera caught a kid "playing dead" in the gutter... they had seen the car and thought it would be a laugh?... it started a police inquiry........... Since then, other pedestrians have caught on, and you get the occasional one acting out something just for the camera?... I find it highly amusing.... but Google dont agree, and if they find one, will "Edit" the photo to remove it... Spoilsports..... The cars are all smart car things, and local traffic treats them worse than learners. We after all dont want the cameras looking in houses. Street View wont go down our street anyway, because it narrow?... huh?... go figure?... they are using (not so) smart cars?.... if I can back a works wagon (60 ft trailer) down the street, and they cant get a not-so-smart down there?... the thing could do a three point turn inside the wagon... Several estates have actually banned street view, because the local criminals were using it to "spy" out good targets. The plane they use for the low level areal photographs has been in trouble as well, after criminals used it to spy out what was in peoples back gardens..... There was a spate of theft from Ponds (Expensive Koi carp) where the crims were using street view and areal photo's to find the ponds..... Personally, I would rather they get on with doing some form of ownership of photo's that show private land and get with the law for permission to show what is in your own back garden... Here is the thing, if I turn up with a camera roadside and point it over your fence, that is illegal, its invasion of privacy, but if I FLY over your property, that NOT illegal?.... go figure again?.... "In the public interest"?.... I have a list of rude words I cant use right now...... What is the public interest in what I have in my back garden?.... And where does "Private no entry" come into that?...

What is the public interest in what I have in my back garden?.... Our local city government uses Google aerial photos to find who is storing boats or RV's in their back yards (which is not allowed here for some insane reason) and also see who has built decks and tool shed's without pulling building permits. It wouldn't matter if Google stopped showing this though. There are many other GIS sites that offer the same views. I personally find the Google's aerial and street view useful from time to time. And if you do see something on your property in street view that you don't want shown, you can send a request to Google and they will blur it out.

It wouldn't matter if Google stopped showing this though. There are many other GIS sites that offer the same views. When we first started shopping around for an air photo vendor, about 8 years ago, one of the top contenders was the company that provides the low-level, multi-angle oblique views that you see in some urban areas when zoomed all the way in on Google Maps. The county Assessors office was nearly beside themselves with excitement, since one of the "benefits" being touted by the vendor was the ability to see more than just straight down, so they could assess unpermitted additions or enclosed porches. As a GIS professional I was interested, but as a citizen I was appalled. Fortunately, budget constraints limited us to the standard overhead views only.

Street View, I can actually say is useful, as I use that sometimes rather than sat-nag to find places.
Commercial properties, shopping streets, main routes through town, yes... go ahead.... But purely residential housing estates?..... No... you have to draw the line somewhere, and if they start doing driving up your drive with the thing, expect reports of a wrecked car............

Mom used to work for a nonprofit in Kansas, and she had to drive all over the state. She assures us that Liberal, Kansas isn't.
