I've mentioned it before, but for the sake of the myth I'll explain it again. On April 26th of last year (2013), I was witness to a fatal traffic accident. ( news report) The driver of the vehicle lost control, crossed the highway with enough speed to both break a road marker and jump a small creek, at which point the vehicle went sideways and crashed into a storefront in a wood-construction retail space. The impact was enough to kill the driver instantly *and* rupture something within the engine, causing a fire. The fire caught something (I'm guessing the vehicle's own fluids), and in seconds the entire front of the building was engulfed in flames. As I spoke with a few other people back then, we noted that it was likely "fortunate" that the office in question belonged to an insurance agency. In other words, we reasoned, the store front was likely a mixture of paperwork, office furniture, and computers. In contrast, at the opposite end of the retail space was a hair salon. The way we saw it, had the vehicle impacted head-on into the hair salon like it did, the vehicle would have likely set off (if not ignited) the various chemicals located inside the salon. Instead, the owners of the salon were able to get in and pull out enough in the way of chemicals and equipment to get a temporary facility going in time for prom. The one-year anniversary is a little less than two weeks away, and so I'm thinking about this again. As part of it, I wonder: what would have happened had the car impacted that salon? |

I think that could qualify as a bustable scenario.
I also think that in salon concentrations, hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide (two of the stronger chemicals used in chemical hair treatments) are more water than flammable; but I could be wrong.

Probably the aerosol cans of hair spray, which is often flammable, would be the worse fire hazard in the shop.

Thank you all for being so understanding. I have a little experience in this field. If it still bugs you, and your fire department has any kind of class, you should be able to ask to talk to someone in the department about it. Fire departments should have people trained in post incident debriefing (technical term: Critical Incident Stress Debriefing = CISD)sometimes its the chaplain, and sometimes it is another officer. my department has a standing policy of offering CISD after any serious event, (particularly fatal accidents) and we often invite people who were drawn into it as well. |

A friend of mine's house burned down two years ago. The amount of post fire support he received from our fire department was amazing. Since all he made it out with was the shirt on his back, they made sure he had a place to stay, temporary spending money, help getting in touch with his insurance company, pretty much everything he needed to hold things together. I was really impressed and very proud of our department. They did far more than just extinguish the fire.

Since all he made it out with was the shirt on his back, they made sure he had a place to stay, temporary spending money, help getting in touch with his insurance company, pretty much everything he needed to hold things together. I was really impressed and very proud of our department. They did far more than just extinguish the fire. some people don't realize how much OTHER business the Chaplains are (when fully trained for the job) trained to handle. the mark of a good chaplain is that they understand that their clientele usually needs material help and emotional support, rather than religious counseling. |

Exactly! As I've always said: A truly good Christian is a good Christian to ALL people, religious or not. It warms my heart to know that those still exist (albeit in other countries than my own - here we generally have two types of Christians: The ones who are only Christian on holidays and when bad stuff happens, but only when it happens to other people - the "it's God's will" types - and the ones who preach a lot more than they practice) |

Exactly! As I've always said: A truly good Christian is a good Christian to ALL people, religious or not. It warms my heart to know that those still exist (albeit in other countries than my own - here we generally have two types of Christians: The ones who are only Christian on holidays and when bad stuff happens, but only when it happens to other people - the "it's God's will" types - and the ones who preach a lot more than they practice) Here, a large number of our Christians are only Christians on holidays and when bad things happen to them. (I.E. you only see them in church on Christmas and Easter, or if they need something.) |

I find it both funny and sad at the same time that I know more agnostics/atheists who treat other people like Christians are supposed to than I know Christians who do the same.
In my circle of friends we've always had this notion that whether he was God's son or not, that Jesus guy had some pretty good ideas about how human beings should treat each other.
Addendum: Just to be clear, I'm an atheist, not an anti-theist. I don't believe in any gods, but I accept and respect that other people do and have actually gone to great lengths to understand the major religions. What p*sses me off isn't religion itself, but how too many people in the world have used it to their own ends, skewing religious texts or making up their own versions of them to justify their hatred for others and instigating intolerance or violence against others. Basically, it's the fact that many people don't actually understand the message of the religion they claim to hold sacred that annoys me.
I just felt like I needed to clarify that, since I know many of you are religious in some way and I don't want you to think I'm one of those militant anti-theists who believe it's their duty to convert religious people.

In my view, only one of those is mildly uplifting. The rest are depressing. That so few Christians live up to it that it is easy to know more atheists who act like Christians than Christians. addendum: I am reminded of the lesson (paraphrased) "don't think that just because you are nice to your buddies; that it is anything special. Even scumbags do that. The real proof that you are better is if you are nice to people you don't like." |

One reason I an agnostic, I dont "Forgive" at the drop of a hat?... especially for serious crimes.

There is a difference between forgiving and letting them get away with it. and between being nice and being permissive. and for that matter - the scripture says to love those around you - it doesn't say you have to like them. |

Some people who fail the basic test of being Human and commit crimes so awful they make you switch the TV off because you cant listen to it?...sadam hussain, bin-(bagged-)laden...?.... you know the sort?...
Not my enemy personally, but many that I would prevent from getting anywhere near my family/friends by any means possible.
I dont have personal enemies.
For two reasons...
First, I am known for getting things sorted out, I dont eave arguments smouldering, they get resolved, and apologies will be issued... and thats both directions, I am not above being a d**k at times myself?...
Secondly, its also known I an not one to take cr@p from others, without responding, and getting some form of resolved issue...
If you have a problem with me, here is my Face, come talk to it.
I wont tolerate anything else.
