Was the cat telling time or detecting signs of the pizzas arrival before your family did? The sound of the pizza guys car, or the smell of melted cheese and a warm crust?  We lived on a main road so we had a lot of traffic go past so I doubt it was the sound of the car. & if he'd smelt the pizza he would have sat & meowed at the door at the most a few seconds before the man knocked at the door with it, he'd always sit down & start meowing 5 minutes before the pizza came. We have no idea HOW he knew the pizza was 5 minutes away he just DID. It was quite uncanny. my next question would be how consistent the pizza delivery was. If it took a consistent time for it to be delivered (and I forget if the cat had to hear you order the pizza) that would be strong evidence for the cat being aware of the passage of time. |

The order's usually took between 15 to 30 minutes from the time of order being placed to it's arrival depending on the time of day. & wether it was a weekend or public holiday when we placed it. Sometimes he (the cat) would be in the house when we placed the order & sometimes he wasn't but would come in after we had placed the order. But I think that the word pizza or the name of the pizza shop would be talked about in the conversation before it arrived (you know the standard "Mum/Dad what are we having for dinner?" their answer "Pizza." Or we'd ask how long till the pizza would arrive ect.) So that may have been a factor in his predicting the pizza mans arrival. |
