You wont be doing that with ease?.. depends on the filter medium. Many of todays decent filters are made from plastics, kiln drying would just melt them. If there was something else, I would be using it?... To get down to that micrometer size you need to trap fine ultra fine and just plain cloudy material, you need wadding of fine material, and unless your using cotton, its plastic, as plastic is washable many more times than cotton. Kiln drying is overkill. You just need to put in in an oven at 150+F for a while to evaporate off the water. No hotter than a clothes dryer operates. The bag filter I had earlier, the pipe threading is metal and the bag is polypropylene. That melts at ~260 F, so you would want to run your oven at about 200. That will still dry it out well enough, it may just take a bit. They also have Polyester bag filters that can take up to 300F (McMaster Carr PN 98295K611) I was just using "kiln" in the reference that we're not making food, here.

I have a suggestion....
Ladies tights.
No seriously, this isnt "We need your underwear", 'cos I would use a clean pair anyway..... But I think a pair of 80 denier or above (Maybe a lady can tell us better?..) would be thick enough to trap some fine particles, and then "Line dry" afterwards. Multiple pairs one inside another will make for better collection.
If the suggestion was take a mud bath beforehand, I think this will do the job.... I use this trick for cleaning of filer sand and gravel in small tanks, as it allows removal of large to medium and small particle whilst recycling the water. I have also used this as a method for cleaning "Green water" algae from ponds... but it takes time, a large tank or water butt, and several pairs which expand a lot under pump pressure...
However, I am beginning to think the idea of staining paint that shows up any dirt left over would be a lot simpler.
And do we have to use a Human anyway?.... Surely a human analogue with a leather like skin would be just as good?... (and quicker...)

They already have something that they can use in place of 'dirt' - the UV bacteria/dye they used for hand-washing and the passing on germs myths. This would also allow them to measure how much dirt end up on the towel by shining a UV light on it.
They could also do a bacteria test to see if bath water, and the soap, will kill more bacteria than showering and shower gel will. As well as measuring how much water showers and baths use.
So actually there is a fair amount of related stuff they could look at and test fairly easily here.
Hell, if they are feeling REALLY adventurous they could cover bathing habits from around the world and even consider trying to find the ultimate way to get clean...Any one willing to stand there while someone uses a pressure washer on them?

(in the handwashing thread)

I have to manage to hold still, and pressure wash the filters from my Pond. Sometimes I get a finger or two... It stings. So for me, anyone willing to try is mad?....
I am liking the idea of UV dye .... Although, when you say Dye, how hard, or how fast?... They would have to check that the dye is not that permanent and washable before they use it. Especially on Skin....

I'm loving the UV dye idea, but as is pointed out, they need to figure out if it behaves like real dirt/bacteria when exposed to water and soap. If it doesn't, it's not an apt analog.
