Now show me a video where Mt Everest "wobbled" in the wind?.... There is an avalanche risk, sure, rockfalls happen, people fall off, but on a mountain you have protective gear, and get roped to anchor points.
And just for the record, I have stood in high places, and get the same Acrophobia.
Which is the real term for fear of heights.... vertigo is the feeling you get when the world starts spinning and moving under you, vertigo is the result of Acrophobia
No it doesnt make me want to run away all the time, I fight it. But I just also get massive claustrophobia in high buildings.... Especially when I know how long it would take to do the stairs downwards if I need to get out in emergency....
Above 10th floor I am all to knowledgeable about the real extent of the turntable ladder they send when a building is on fire..... Which goes up as far as the 10th... 11th at a stretch.... not as far as the 15th where I used to live....

vertigo is the feeling you get when the world starts spinning and moving under you, vertigo is the result of Acrophobia Or the result of being so insanely drunk that you feel like you have to hold on to not fall off - while lying flat on the floor

The result of being drunk is drunk, its not quite the same as Vertigo, as it involves less fluids.... Thirty pints passed my lips... ....15 each way?.... I aint been that drunk for near 30 years. I was THAT drunk I never went that far again......

(For anyone who doesn't know, just go to YouTube and type Vicky Pollard. I wanted to link a video, but couldn't find anything appropriate for this board )

most of the elevators around here are direct hydraulic ram lifts. means you have to have a big hole under it, but on the other hand, the absolute worst case scenario - other than something exploding, of course - is the elevator descends as fast as the fluid can leak out of the cylinder - which is about as fast as the elevator descends in normal service.

I have never liked the character at all, nor any of the show, but the phrase has entered the human language to simulate confusion.

It's a far cry from the best British comedy show ever produced, but some of the characters are pretty funny. Vicky Pollard is one I find particularly funny. Her and Daffyd Thomas, "the only gay in the villaaj" I still think Monty Python and Blackadder are the ones to beat though, and forget about Little Britain holding a candle to any of those. I'm not even sure it could hold a burnt out match to them.

Lift Myth of pressing the button.
Can someone from the makers of the lifts please explain on screen that pressing the button repeatedly is NOT, repeat NOT some secret code that makes the lift shift quicker.....

That's exactly like letting a politician explain on screen that the NSA is not analysing your private data and phone conversations.

Now show me a video where Mt Everest "wobbled" in the wind?.... It's not about wobbling. Mt Everest is slightly taller than any building. And even inside the tallest buildings, the cables are so long that they are extremely heavy. Almost too heavy to make any sense. This is one of the reasons for "sky lobbies", shortening the length of the cables. And in case of Mt Everest, conventional cables would break from their own weight already, you don't even need to attach a cabin. With the new material, it is possible to make an elevator this tall.

I still dont get whey they dont do a rack-and-pinion type work gear where the lift climbs a rack instead of cables.

I still dont get whey they dont do a rack-and-pinion type work gear where the lift climbs a rack instead of cables. Then the cabin would need to have the motor, gears and lots of other stuff. This would require a massive power cable or a high tension cable with transformer on the cabin. This would add a lot of extra weight, making the shaft even bigger and the cabin would be real noisy. And if the thing gets stuck, there is no way to descend or ascend the cabin manually or by gravity until the broken mechanism is fixed.
