There is always more cgi in modern action films than most people realise. I seem to recall saying this before, but it seems filmmakers are starting to treat cgi as one of the tools at their disposal rather than the only tool they need. and it is about time. bad CGI can be a HUGE detraction, and the more you use it unnecessarily, the better the odds that it will be bad.

I would say that if you dont know if its CGI or not, it works. If it doesnt matter, then the story works even better. If its at a stage where you dont know whats real or CGI, or more to the point, dont care, then its either a good film or its so awful you just cant wait to get out...
The amount of CGI in the Terry Pratchet films, Avatar, and the like, you couldn't even start to tell the story without it, so, it has its uses, and that makes the story.
CGI is a good tool.... But its just a tool. If its used wrong, you know, if its used right, its a bloody good film?..

Ironhold, are you going to put this thread to bed and open a new one for the 2016 season?... Or do we just change the thread title?.
Just wondering is all, because I have a feeling there will be a few "priceless" duds out this year....

I say we just leave it as-is and continue along.

I'd think it would be better to start a new thread, so there would be no confusion over what year a particular film came out.
Besides, this is going to be a big year for cinema. Deadpool, BvS, Civil War, X-Men (again), Doctor Strange and Rogue One are the big films coming out. I think the world of warcraft film is out as well. Of these civil war and X-Men are probably as assured hits as you could get, given the performance of the franchises worldwide. The others are a little less certain. Although BvS is probably going to be a hit in the US, there is the question as to how it is going to fare overseas. Deadpool may have had one of the best marketing campaigns in recent history, but its an r rated superhero film with a character not that many people have heard of.

www.imdb.com/title/tt1390411/ In the heart of the sea... The true story behind Moby D*ck, or Moby Richard, or however auto-correct and the language filter decides to censor that one?... 42% on Rotten Tomatoes at this time. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/in_the_heart_of_the_sea/I have had a review in fresh from someone I deem sensible. They walked out. Its because of that I deem them sensible. Reasons give, it was tiring and played fast and loose with history.

www.rottentomatoes.com/m/daddys_home_2014/"Daddys Home" Has made 2,3million... IDMB states 6.5 out of 10 for a rating. Anyone else have anything to say?.. From what I hear, Will Ferrell is "looking for work" and this one wont sit on his CV very well, as its not his usually good standard. You either love him or hate him, but even those who love him hate this one. "It could have been easily so much better"

Last two were definitely last year. This one is one to watch... Ride along 2 It has been said that its the same script as Ride Along 1. Rotten tomatoes says sort of similar. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ride_along_2/In that it scores a lowly 16% pre-release and unashamedly uses the same "gags" and script lines from the previous film?... Perhaps when its released, we may get a better idea......

Ride along 2 releases today in the USA.
Also just discovered that Deadpool opens on the 10th February in the UK, four days before its US release.

saw Pan. kind of an odd show, but they had a lot of fun with it, and I found it worth watching.

SORRY CM! I didn't realize it was there until AFTER I posted. I came back in to correct it, and saw you already caught it. Again, my apologies!

...Meanwhile, "Deadpool" was absolutely hilarious if you can stomach the film's particular brand of violent humor.
Deadpool: "So - have you taken any steps to win your girl back?" Cab Driver: "Yes. I have." D: "Oh?" C: "My rival... he is in the trunk of my car. I will kill him and leave his body in front of her door." Colossus: "WHAT?!"

Not a problem, it was the word filter that caught and edited the offending word btw. Edit; I got to see Deadpool on Wednesday, and I will say that it lives up to the hype and the marketing hasn't promised anything the film doesn't deliver. I found it funny, the violence while graphic fits the story and character and the acting is top notch for what it is. We also see Colossus from the X-Men in the film, which is not a spoiler as he appears in the trailers, and he is actually a FAR better character and closer to the comic book version than anything seen in the actual X-Men films to date. It is R rated in the USA, but 15 in the UK.

we watched The Last Witch Hunter last week, which I think qualified as a bomb.
I found it reasonably entertaining - if not exactly Vin Diesel's best role.
it kind of fits into the "cheesy sword and sorcery" genre.
