We can add "Danny Collins" to the list of roadkill. It had a $10m production budget, but only netted $5.6m domestically; no word yet on an international release. danny who? when the cast is listed in bigger font than the title, is that a bad sign?

So "Jurassic World" just had the second-biggest US domestic opening weekend of all time at $204.6m dollars. This makes it the #3 movie in the US right now, and I can easily see it being pushed to #1 before the end of the year. With this and "San Andreas", we now have 12 films this year to have gone past $100m. "Get Hard" could be #13 if it could somehow muster up that final $10m.
"Tomorrowland" needs another $13m to meet its production budget, while "Hot Pursuit" needs $40,000 and "Aloha" needs $18m. At this point, I doubt either film will make it. The former was simply too expensive ($190m), while the others got shredded in the reviews.

Jurassic world is an "eagerly anticipated" follow on... It HAS to be as good as the last....
I hope it lives up to its reputation.
Erm... anyone seen it yet?.. is it "All that good"....

I have heard one good review and one mixed review. I.E. good but could have been better if the director had let his actors act.

Have we mentioned United Passions here yet? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_PassionsThe FIFA funded film starring Tim Roth as Sept Blatter, it cost $25-32 Million and has only made about $178000 worldwide. I am surprised it made that much to be frank.

I am wondering how many places paid a certain "Rent" to hire the film that is not refundable but counts as "profit".
I know of the film. I also know that many people have made the stand they wouldnt even buy it on CD from a "Remainders" bin on the grounds that he is such a corrupt anchor (missing letter) that they wouldnt poor a glass of water over him if he was on fire.
Remember, this is the part of the country where the immortal phrase by Bill Shankly (Liverpool FC) was coined
I rest the case, Fifa is now an official swear-word around here.
FIFA 15, the X-Box game, is now worth ≅20pence second-hand, and XBox live are trying to sell it ≅60-75% off in "sales"

The market for that type of game means that as soon as the new update is imminent the older one losses its value.

watched Jupiter ascending. kind of goofy and farfetched, but a fun ride. they actually managed to write a story that was different to me.

Was it worth a watch then?.. its just I am being offered that at a reasonable price (when compared to buying the DVD) and may have a go, because wimbledon has cancelled all BBC tv here, and even if you try to get away from tennis somewhere, they break in and force you to get updates on every bloody news break. Dont matter that the whole OF THE bbc SERVICE IS "DEDICATED" TO GETTING YOU AS MUCH TENNIS AS POSSIBLE, I just cant get away from it, as every other TV channel has finished its run of the usual watchable series-es and there is bugger all else to watch at the moment... Except Deadliest Catch. And eliot on self destruct.... The moment his crane threw off his winch, I fell off my chair laughing.... I really dont like that likkle git.

Went with the wife to Watch Magic Mike XXL last night.
I liked the original. If you substitute the Stripper part with any other career, you would still have a good drama with interesting characters. I could apreaceate the technical aspects of the dancing, even if it didn't do anything for me. And it had some side benefits with the wife.
The sequel, not as much. To start off, it is a road movie, which are difficult to have good stories to start with. In this case, they story really doesn't make much sense and isn't that complex. It has quite a few contrivances to get rid of the various characters and replaces them with ones with no background and are as boring as they are flat. The dancing was a mixed bag. What they did was well done, but there is very little of it in this one. There are a couple short ones in the beginning, but most of the movies has very little until the end and what it does have isn't very interesting from a technical perspective. As far as the side benefits of this one, not as much.
So all in all, Magic Mike XXL, disappointing and boring.

I enjoyed watching it. you have to suspend disbelief in some spots, and I caught a few effects issues, but for lightweight sci-fi entertainment, I can recommend it.

SD, if you want a good laugh this summer, I just watched "Last Vegas" and I think it's right up your alley. It's not a new movie (2013) and I don't think it got much press when it was released, which is kind of sad, because it's really funny! Here's the gist of it: Think "The Hangover" but with a bunch of old guys doing that whole thing "the old guy way". Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Kevin Cline and the always awesome Morgan Freeman play a group of old men who have been friends since childhood, but don't see each other that often any more. Douglas' character has decided to marry his much younger girlfriend, calls his friends to spread the news and they decide it's bachelor party in Vegas time. Fun, as it can only be provided by old men who are painfully aware that they're old, promptly ensues Parts of the story are kind of predictable, but that doesn't take anything away from the comedy of it. Watching Cline's character awkwardly chase tail like there's no tomorrow, because his wife has granted him permission to "cheat", as long as he comes home a happier man than when he left and he doesn't tell her about it is priceless!

Although a hit globally, here in the US it was a total flop.
The trailers for the American release made the film seem like something it wasn't, and the dissonance between what was promised & what was delivered was so jarring that a lot of folks - myself included - had trouble moving beyond it.
