I can't believe it's been two weeks since Sir Terry died. I know we all have to go sometime, but I'm still expecting to wake up & find it's all been just a bad dream. RIP Sir Terry Pratchett

Found this Poem on Facebook.
The Turtle Moves By Terry Dobson
The turtle moves Through space that appears much darker now Passing stars that seem a little dimmer somehow From Hub to Rim, over land and sea A sudden silence calls
Rincewind hears and stops running Commander Vimes halts midstride The Patrician in his office Feels a teardrop in his eye The ravens on the Tower of Art Screech out a mournful cry The wizards and the witches Feel the magic slip away Dwarf and troll stop fighting If only for this day
The Author lifts his gaze From under Borsalino brim And looks Death in the eye socket Death looks back, and in his hand An hourglass where the last grain of sand Trickles down and freefalls through the air Death says “COME TAKE A FINAL RIDE” The pen falls to the floor Defeated not by the sword But by Death’s cold scythe
The turtle moves Through space that appears much darker now Passing stars that seem a little dimmer somehow As the colour of magic fades and dies And two worlds say a last goodbye.

I'm glad that he finished the last book though before the end, & that it features Tiffany Aching (& by default the Nac Mac Feegle’s). I do hope that Granny Weatherwax & Nanny Ogg will also make an appearance in the book as well. After Death the witches & the Nac Mac Feegle’s are my favourite characters. I do hope that Sir Terry's daughter Rhianna Pratchett, will carry on her fathers mantle as it's been rumoured that she will do but as of yet not confirmed.

I hope she does well, but I am not sure it will work, a friend of mine is a great fan of the books of Anne Maccaffery ( the first female winner of a Hugo award), particularly her Dragons of Pern series. Following Anne's death her son took, over the reigns of writing the books and my friend was deeply disappointed in the work he produced, her exact quote was unprintable here.

Like you say we will have to wait and see what happens, I guess I am naturally pessimistic.

I share the opinion on the McCafferys. I have not read any more after the one her son co-wrote.

I share the opinion on the McCafferys. I have not read any more after the one her son co-wrote. She will be glad to know she is not the only one of that opnion. Anne McCaffrey: epic stories about brave men and women battling to keep their planet safe and viable. Jr. McCaffrey: tepid stories about gay love triangles with dragons.

Gold Dragons, are the Queens and have female human partners. Bronze Dragons their male breeding counter parts and have male humans riders. These type of dragon are limited in number. Their human riders become higher ranking people,on the planet along with the Guild leaders and lords. Brown and Blue are lower ranked male dragons, with male riders Green dragons are sterile female dragons normally with male riders, though one female character did bond with one in one of the series. These dragons are far more common and are the rank and file. As TLW says Anne's books where more about the threat to life on their planet and the action the riders took, Her son it seems spent more time in the other aspect.

I forgot that part, that is why Memneth ( the lead Queen dragon) uses Flamethrowers rather than breathing Fire.

Yes it is, but now you say that it was Ramoth that was the Gold Mementh was the Bronze......brain fart. My friend would be horrified.
But to bring it back to Sir Terry, the middle sequence of the Colour of Magic were Twoflower and Rincewind visit Wymberg is a gentle parody of the Pern series.
