On further investigation, yes, Built by Austin.... who make the Mini.
Austin made the Mini and Austin Allegro, and Metro, google them for pics, and yes, it is mono-cock-up
Austin, in association with British Motor company, BMC, British Leyland, (BL), Morris Garages, MG, Rover group, Riley group and Wolseley, who all became part of BL.
John Cooper and Eric Brandon also got involved to make the Cooper versions, the 1275 GT engine, thus you get the "Cooper" version of the Mini, upgraded to perfection [almost] at the time.
If that is the 1500 engine, I suspect its the same one they put in the Allegro.
If you take that and the gearbox, it will fit almost "in the same bolt holes" as the classic Mini engine..
I know, I have done that, and it sounded about the same as that one.
To get that kind of sound, you do have to do some uprtades to the engine, gearbox, intakes, in fact the full throttle assembly needs new up-sizing and new butterflys injectors polishing, possible twin carbs as well, so balancing, K&N steel mesh air filters and a whole lot more.
It also sounds like the exhaust system was upgraded to race standard, as in, chop out the silencers...
But then, my speakers aint that good, and its been a few years.
I wonder if Isaac Issigonis (SP?) had a hand in design of it, as it looks similar to the Mini in certain departments, other than the sheer size.
