we've been growing beans, carrots and potatoes as well as salad and other small stuff for some years now, but had to share our newest "success". All this work, and we only got one pumpkin from the plant......

It's a great looking pumpkin. Mostly I grow soft fruits, blueberries, strawberries, Blackcurrants and blackberries, I love making a summer fruit pudding with the results.

Scale is in kg. It is going to be made into pickles. Beer and a lot frozen as pie and soup base.

How did you get it to grow in a handy wheelbarrow anyway?...
My record with plants is not good. The only plants I get to get any success with are heavy ones... on the back of my truck?... Last week, I was told "Go pick up two headers". Two 40ft long combine harvest headers, thats a full load. [the long business end part of a combine harvester...] They are usually towed behind the combine on trailers, but these were replacement ones.
Otherwise, I can grow a few flowers to make the house look nice in summer, but thats about it?.. I cant claim any responsibility for the fruit trees at the bottom of the garden, they sort of look after themselves.

My wife has her veggie garden and a greenhouse. I do my best to avoid both.

my wife does most of the maintaining the vegetable patch and greenhouse, but i tend to be the one doing the turning and anything else that is messy or heavy.....
sadly, dragon, it only got into the barrow by manual labour..

There's only so much pumpkin pie you can make out of one before it gets old. A friend gave me some rhubarb this year and I pickled it. Wasn't bad at all.

It's spring here so I'm trying to restart the garden with the usual suspects - herbs, various lettuces, cucumbers, eggplants & tomato's. But the *CENSORED* slugs have been out & eaten most if not all of my tomato's! They're heritage/rare varieties which makes it all the more annoying. I prefer to garden 'green' ie: no chemical fertilizers or pest repellents. I've tried every natural/green pest control I have ever heard (beer traps, egg shells, salt ect) of but they just aren't working. The problem is SO bad this year I'm afraid I'm going to have to cave in & buy some slug pellets.

good luck, we're having similar issues, but using iron-phosphate seems to be the only thing that keeps them at bay(green pellets).
