I'm actually wondering how much of what we were told about the Amazons turns out to be true, since we get that information through what Diana herself was taught and some of that turns out to be untrue. Or at best misleading. I don't want to get into spoilers (Nothing said above gives away anything that couldn't be deduced from the trailers). But it does seem that the way they gave us information on the Amazons would allow them to recon a LOT of elements; Including the idea that the Amazons have had no dealings with Man's World since they moved to the Island. (Which would fix the issue of having modern horses) I believe the comic books' explanation is that the amazons monitor what goes on in the world, which, of course, (not quite a spoiler) does not explain why they are only up to date on SOME of the outside world.

A while back I was playing online RPG writing games, and as part of that involved creating or recreating modified versions of Superhero characters I ended up musing on how I would take the Wonder Woman character and 'update' her for TV or film in a way that would be logical in terms of culture and yet not have to resort to 'magic' to explain things. Some of my thoughts;
The Amazons have not been totally cut off from 'mans world', instead having some connections with small villages on the Greek coastline. This explains how they would have modern horses and livestock - they traded for them.
Amazons have also gone out to explore 'man's world' in small groups over the centuries specifically to gain information as well as look for potential 'recruits'. This would both explain why Amazons would know modern languages and allow their ranks to include more than just women from Europe.
The Amazons themselves are superhuman in nature, or as I put it the meekest and least skilled of them would be quite capable of wiping out a special forces team in less than a minute. However it would be left open as to if this superhuman nature is 'magical' in nature or if Amazons were actually part alien; Their young recruits going through a process that grants them the same abilities.
They are known to governments, but their existence is kept secret as Amazons don't want to be bothered and governments would rather not pick a fight they suspect might not go well for them. This would have been the case at some point during the Second World War when the Amazons went to the aid of one of the villages they had been trading for for a long time. This aid basically resulted in spear and sword welding women appearing from no where and ripping an armored battalion apart in a couple of minutes without taking any apparent losses to themselves.
