our rental car for our vacation has lots of driver assist bells and whistles, including the lane assistance and adaptive cruise features. it left me wondering what level of driver assistance would it take, to make it possible to drive with no outside visibility, and how fast a person could safely drive with no outside visibility. of course, without an active show, they can't test it, but if they were to test it; it would definitely need to be done on a closed course, in a car with auxiliary controls.

isn't that what AI already does?

isn't that what AI already does? AI isn't perfect, to the point that there have been various investigations after AI vehicles were involved in accidents. We're not there yet to where we can just let cars drive themselves.

Even if that's true, I still prefer to be the one in control.

Coincidentally, according to the news this morning Musk just unveiled a "robo-taxi" that literally has no user controls available for the occupants. The vehicle does literally all of the driving, and the people inside have no choice but to sit back and accept what ultimately happens.

A number of insurance companies are already starting to refuse to cover various Tesla Products like the Cybertruck. IN a case like this where there is no option for user override, who is going to be liable for a crash? Looks like a legal minefield waiting to happen. I bet insurance companies are going to think long and hard about this these robo-taxis.
