Now I dont do Kindle, so I would like some help please?...

There are many free e-book sites. Just Goggle "free e-books". Below are 2. In addition, many public libraries have them for "checkout" on-line. I keep thinking I want to try getting an on-line library "card" from NYC, maybe Chicago, and most particularly the Library of Congress but haven't tried yet www.gutenberg.org/www.free-ebooks.net/

Try downloading Calibre; calibre-ebook.com/This program not only allows you to search the net for books (beyond Amazon - it comes up with a long list of places you can find a book, tells you the prices and if they have DRM), but it also comes with its own file conversion program. This will allow you to convert most ebook formats into something your e-reader can read, and it will even search your PC for existing books stored there. (Although it can't convert copy protected files). This should work with Kindle as well as most other major ebooks, and is fairly easy to pick up and use. Note/Tip; A LOT of older classic books are available for free on Gutenberg.org (link above), but some online stores will still charge you for those books. So if, for example, you want Charles Dickens books or Charles Darwin's Origins of Species, check on Gutenberg first. I was able to pick up the entire 'Alan Quartermain' series of books from Gutenberg, as well as the complete diaries of Samuel Pepys, for free from there.

And do you need to download anything in order to transfer them over? Download "Calibre". It organizes and backups your eBooks, can convert all standard document formats into a document optimized for Kindle (except they are protected by DRM) and synchronizes with your Kindle when it is plugged in. It's a very convenient method to get eBooks onto your Kindle, even your own *.DOC or *.PDF files or any eBook from third parties (without DRM) the Kindle can't handle. Even if the Kindle can handle it (e.g. PDF), Calibre does a fine job in reformatting the content so you don't need to scroll all the time even when you zoom. Also Calibre can collect all free newspapers and magazines (even sheduled) and upload it to the Kindle when it is plugged in. There are a couple of neat and free science magazines as well as international newspapers which are free (e.g. NY Times international).

By the way, if you want to publish your own books (you can conveniently offer and sell them by Amazon at a price of your choice), Calibre helps you to reformat your documents and fixes most common formatting errors so your book looks really professional!
