Ours wear out.
Ok, so five years out of a pan that gets used maybe twice a week.... It isnt exactly handles with care either... the kids use it for making their own fried egg sandwiches and the like....
But they wear out eventually.
And they get Dish-washed.
Allergic to soap?... I have not heard this before. I have hear allergic to heat, as in, if you get them too hot, the Teflon melts off, so we dont fry steaks in them.....
BTW, and this goes against advice in another thread (Grin) after a heavy fry, I do throw my Teflon pans into soak before dishwashing... a 10-20 min soak removes 99% of food residue from Teflon coated pans?...

it might be fun if they tried to find some old Teflon cookware Sounds like a real long shot to me. Who might have put away a brand new rather expensive pan, still in its box as a collector item? Sometimes such things turn up on Antiques Road Show when some very old mom & pop hardware store closes up. But as far as testing is concerned, Dupont has probably done tens of millions of dollars of testing over the decades on every version of Teflon. The records of all that might be in their archives or in some retired engineer's garage.

I'm sure they have, but they're apparently not very good at putting that knowledge out there since there's still a lot of people who hold these myths to be true.

Teflon is chemically resistant to almost everything. Mechanical abrasion and excessive heat can damage the coating. Soap, not a snowball's chance. Ignorance is often very resistant to facts.
