I have an entire terabyte of memory here on the network.
I DONT need to access it away from the network, I have memory sticks for what I need in that respect?...
I DONT trust cloud storage at all.
One power cut in the wrong place, no cloud?....
Ok, so the cloud has battery backup and emergency generators... maybe....
Even with my VERY reliable cable service, I have had service drop outs caused by some twit with a jack-hammer causing damage...
No internet, no cloud.
You can just bet that the day you NEED that internet, is the day you need the cloud?... its called sods law.
As for relying on it for the ONLY source of memory?... whoever does that is a fool.
You stick personal details or even bank details on there, you invite hackers.
And where there is a lock, there is a lock-picker.....
I know, part of my job as Beta tester for a well known anti-nasty site is testing software to stop hackers...
To know your adversary is to know your adversary.
I know where Troll Central is. I know what they get up to.
My Terabyte of memory is on portable drives that I can even "Hot Swap" from one machine to another, so if my main machine fails, I can just put the drive on another machine...
If you have a Wi-Fi, or even wired network, you can "File share" with any portable or any other device....
Just set file to share, add security (Password etc) and away you go.
Tell the portable device where to look on the network, and its done.
Also, you can get a wi-fi that is NOT connected to the internet, for extra security.....
That is how this system works.
All our machines have two wi-fi connections, one is internet, the other is VPN network sharing, or "Personal cloud" if you will.
