So why isnt there the modern equivalent of hitching posts in car parks to tether the car to?....
My mind has a habit of wandering about. And I cant help wondering how this hasn't been thought of before... surely, in a society that accepts we tie ships to the dock, we tether horses, why havnt we though of a restraining strap to prevent cars rolling away on downhill slopes when parked up?..

as for flight of the phoenix - that was also thoroughly discussed, and I believe one of the points brought up was that the crash was due to pilot error, not failure of the plane. another point being that the plane was specifically selected to be capable of being rebuilt in that manner. Rumour has it pilot Paul Mantz was drunk at the time. According to IMPDb, in addition to the Tallmantz Pheonix P-1 (built out the boom of a C-82 Packet), a non flying version was made for ground scenes (made from a Flying Boxcar), and a modified North American O-47 was used for later flying scenes filmed after - and because of - the original Pheonix crash. www.impdb.org/index.php?title=The_Flight_of_the_Phoenix

Confirmed in a recent interview that this has been tested and will air in the 2015 season. Thread moved to the hall of fame. And yes, I DID notice who posted this idea. Thankfully he's kind of modest and won't crow about this. Much. Probably
