The "shove another car off the cliff" testing looked like the guys were having fun. The results weren't all that surprising -- I've never been on the receiving end of a pit maneuver (or the giving end, for that matter), but I knew about it going into the episode. Two wheel driving got a little scary, even with Adam flipping the car having been "spoiled" weeks ago. (If you haven't watched the aftershow yet, Jamie says he's fine.) I'm a little surprised that they didn't wear the neck collars for those tests, though. "Wanted" car jump ... come on, it's a myth from "Wanted", did anyone expect accurate physics? But they came really close with the ramped Corvette.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the new format where they just jump right into testing the myths without much of a prelude in terms of showing us any of the building or planning processes... It just feels weird to me somehow. It's still a good show with solid results to the tests, but it feels a little... I don't know, too polished? It's increasingly becoming, "This is what we've done," when explaining the build, rather than the old, "This is what we're doing" where we got to be part of the whole process and not just the end result. Favorite Robert Lee quote of all time in this episode, though: "Adam spends the next four hours... Failing to get it up."

I liked this episode but there really wasn't much to explain as to what they were doing. But I didn't think most of the myths were going to happen other than slamming the car into the other car.
The two wheel car, I was also surprised the guys didn't wear helmets or the kinds that NASCAR drivers wear as well as neck braces.
The build team, I didn't think they were going to get the flip they wanted, maybe the cars are too heavy for that and maybe gravity as well.

I think this episode was good for reaffirming something the MBs have shown before: Don't believe everything (or anything?) you see in the movies.
I'm also surprised they weren't given a HANS (Head and Neck Stabilization) Device for the two-wheel car myth.

It's increasingly becoming, "This is what we've done," when explaining the build, rather than the old, "This is what we're doing" where we got to be part of the whole process and not just the end result. Favorite Robert Lee quote of all time in this episode, though: "Adam spends the next four hours... Failing to get it up." Adam and Jamie addressed this during their panel at Com-Con, indicating that it was decided to 'shake things up' a little by concentrating more on explaining how and why they did certain things than on just the testing itself. Or if you like they will be doing and showing more of the process and building than they have for a while. Note that this is something Dan Tapster mentioned wanting to do in his interview for TC some 18 months ago. This is in keeping with one of the sneak-peek videos for the next season up on Discovery, where we get to see Adam putting his skills to use in making a bull-whip. WE wouldn't get to see this during this short run* because these episodes were filmed months ago, maybe even as far back as last year. (In fact Adam mentioned the Boarding a Plane myth as something that is due to be aired sometime this year**, and that seems to have been filmed almost two and a half years ago). My Bothan has whispered in my little ear about one of two things Mythbusters have either done or things they have been looking at since Febuary/March time. Now naturally I don't know everything, and what I do know I couldn't tell you anyway***. But my impression from what I have been told is that they are going to be changing focus a little more towards building and 'science' than just spectacular visual stunts. I don't think they will entirely drop the visual stuff and big explosions, but that is my impression/best guess not a statement of fact. Also worth noting that I *think* Adam mentioned that there will be several more new episodes aired towards the end of August. This would make sense as they seem to have moved towards a shorter development time for the show and presumably this means that they have some additional episodes left over from the longer development cycle. Adam and Jamie's panel can be viewed on YouTube or via Tested.com - It doesn't look as if there was a Mythbuster's panel this year. It's worth watching if only because they decided to do their panel minus a moderator, and while sitting on the table so they could have a somewhat more informal discussion. (*Best guess is that this would apply to episodes produced up to March this year. As the turn around for editing seems to be three-six months I wouldn't expect to see any major changes in focus until September) (**This episode was broadcast in Australia in September 2012, but has yet to be broadcast elsewhere) (***There is a price to occasionally getting inside information. That price being that 99% of it I can't talk about**** lest they send in the Hyneman...or if I really annoy them, Kari. Those of you who follow them on Twitter or Facebook might have already guessed as to one thing they have done fairly recently though...) (****Joking aside. This is a similar situation to the Star Wars Special, in that I was asked not to say anything until given permission to do so. While somewhat frustrating to have to keep such things from members, the reward was knowing that TC and its members played an important part in the production of an episode - and a major one too - as well as knowing that TC is a place they are aware of and keep an eye on. Which drastically increases the odds of ideas being noticed and picked up. Adam and Jamie also revealed that they have made a Star Wars Special 2, which given how useful TC was in regards the first one means there is a fair chance that we also played a significant role in the second - after all I think we ended up covering every possible myth that the films had to offer. So I'd say there is a rather good chance that whatever they decided to do for the sequel come via the Star Wars Challenge thread here. Note; This is my guess NOT a statement of fact. I was unaware they had even done a Star Wars 2 until the Adam and Jamie Panel.) *Edit/Update*; Discovery is listing two new episodes that will be aired on 7th August; Laws of Attraction Traffic Tricks (This is another episode that was filmed a while back and shown on Australian TV but is only just coming to US audiences)

on the topic of safety...
the HANS device is specifically designed to reduce the force from forward collisions. it does very little for anything else. but I did see they were using the "donut" neck brace for much of the filming of the car sumo portion. as for the two wheel portion - I would have wanted them wearing, at minimum, gloves and helmets, if I was their insurance underwriter.
as for the Wanted car jump: yeah, right. I'm sure most of us saw how flagrantly the movie violated the laws of physics. but to stick with just the car jump. I'm glad they finally pointed out the difference between the ramp they were using and the ramp Adam and Jamie were using. cars are soft and squishy in comparison.

Thanks for the info Cyber. Good to hear they're able to see it themselves. I'll be looking forward to them "going back to the old format", or at least a renewed version of it

I suspect that showing the build process isn't going to apply to all episodes, mainly because not all ideas really support showing the builds. Some effectively have none, or nothing that would be interesting to see, while others may be complex and time consuming to the point that they don't have time to show builds without loosing some of the explanations/tests which could make things confusing.
Best guess is that we will see more of the builds than we've had for a while, and one thing that was whispered in my ear would seem to be something that by its nature would probably be very build-intensive. One of the others would seem to be more 'action' orientated, although I can't be sure about that as I don't know specifics. After all its not like I camp out at M5, live in SF or have anyone on speed-dial.

Road rage, "PIT" manoeuvre, how to survive.... I think I have said this before, if you can see someone trying this on you, as they line up, its the pedal in the middle you want. You slow down without warning, they shoot past, change direction, GTF outa there.
If its the law, just stop, you wont win, they will find you, you will be arrested, the longer you fight that, the longer the charge sheet?......
Bumper tag in general, just dont play. I have had people try to play with me, I refuse to partake, and am not above just stopping....
I have not seen the episode yet, I presume I will have more comments when I do?...
I have had "Road rage" against me in a race situation... someone didnt like the fact I was not for overtaking, nor did they like the fact they didnt have enough talent to overtake anyway, they got slightly silly, I just slowed and waited for the Black Flag. Touring cars may be a full contact sport, but when they start to get dangerous with it, the flags will disqualify the idiots. "Shoved off the road", no one has ever done that to me yet. One or two have tried... Strange... they really think that 20 tons unladen weight will be "Shoved" by their liklle poxy BMW?.... (Its always a berk in a beamer, or a twerp in a Merc (Mercedes)
I have had a few occasions to get the Car in awkward situations, road fools, but I just remember its probably not personal, they just annoy everyone..... so why should I let myself be annoyed by them?...

we actually had, on one of our police reality shows (I one of the "found footage" variety, rather than a reenactment show) an incident where a fleeing driver survived FIVE applications of the PIT maneuver. (and then they simply boxed him in and gave him their impression of an immovable object)
which hearkens back to the old Ron (Tater Salad) White comment "I didn't know how many of them it would take to beat be up, but I knew how many they were going to use, which is important"

Does anyone know when the episode will be re-run in the US?
I was at work on Thursday, and the person I asked to tape the show forgot to.
Thanks.

I'm not seeing a repeat on the Discovery schedule, but with two new episodes coming up they might not have had time.

Looks like they are doing reruns on the Science Channel S9 E27 Road Rage Testing Hollywood car crimes; a cliff-top push; two-wheel wipeout; the Corvette barrel roll. Sun, August 17 2014 8:00PM SCIENCE 11:00PM SCIENCE Here's a link to upcoming episodes and reruns on the online guide I use. www.zap2it.com/tv/mythbusters/episodes/SH005576780000Edit: Looks like you will have to click the "upcoming" link yourself.

Finally got to see it last night.
I agree that there really wasn't much in the way of science to show off aside from the full-scale tests themselves.
