Somewhere around here we had brought up the idea that human-introduced stuff in the water might be altering people in strange ways such that we now have to rewrite laws to accommodate them because they are a large enough minority now. Lead, radioactivity (depleated uranium, something I've brushed up against), mercury, fluoride, farming substances like nitrates, and of course there are diluted pharmaceuticals, and the list continues. Usually, dilute substances can be a reduced concern. But, when the substances are toxic enough they likely don't dilute well enough, basically. Yes, The Light Works, that point is discussed in the video. I would surmise your bringing it up likely means you didn't have time to watch the video. Maybe I'm guessing beyond reason, though. I managed to have time to see about half of it before other things were more important. by which I mean things other people had in mind I would do.

so... 8 minutes railing against the conservative definition of woke, and the one solution proposed: what the people he rails against want to have accomplished.

If the opposing side to his speech stated what you stated, then I'd say there was possibility to find mutual ground there and begin doing the things all people want, just as you say.
If the opposing side wanted to push back some on his "8 minutes of railing" personally I'd be fine with that, so long as the apparent mutual ground was seriously continued.

None of that matters. That is, the fringe doesn't matter. Or doesn't matter to those people who want the things apparently called for here. So, in the end, if the greater group of sensible people get these things. Then the fringe, all the fringe, can just keep yapping and complaining.

Me: "You know, it might make such-and-such sci-fi world feel a little more dystopian if I have it that military service members essentially subsist on industrially-processed food bars when not at base."
Chinese Navy: "We're giving our marines industrially-processed food bars as the core components of their 24-hour ration kits."
edit -
There are three meal kits inside that box, each kit being in plastic.
Each kit consists of two "meat and vegetable" bars that heavily feature green onions, a "glucose" bar that took on the smell and flavor of the green onions because of how they were packed, a cocoa bar, a piece of dried fish, a piece of dried beef, two strips of something called "Hawthorne", two small pieces of chocolate, and four little gum chicklets.

it seems the FDA is applying strict new standards, and some food manufacturers are upset.
spoiler: the new rule is that if a food is to be labeled "healthy" is has to have a certain minimum percentage of food included.

Took 16 years from the invention of the audio cassette for someone to figure out a way a person could listen to them on the go without hauling a big device around.
Took 9 years after that for someone to make it all into a fashion statement.
