About the wrecking ball, maybe this can never happen in real life, but I seem to remember the scene where the ball was being swung around with Homer on the ball. I have to wonder, can you swing a wrecking ball the way it did on 'The Simpsons'? if you have not seen the episode: spoiler alert. no, they couldn't.

Yes but no. Yes you can, but no they wont, its "Out of control", and breaks several common sense and safety concerns.

I liked the episode overall. My complaint was that, while Homer clearly made a difference, they never even mentioned that it would be deadly to him. I would have loved to have seen sensors and such added into him to show what a terribly bad idea that would be in RL. Yea, he wouldn't be saying "Dohh", or anything else as he would be dead. Big difference. Cartoon physics = funny. Real physics = he's dead.
