the fact that they found something to test in the temple run through the traps is way cool. the fact they did it so conclusively is great. it actually surprised me that adam needed more whip training - I figured him being into making them, he would have had some lessons.

I was surprised about Adam, too.
I was skeptical about this episode going in, but the science was solid and they didn't just fanboy mail it in as I had feared. All around a great episode, and the changes they made this year get better every week.
Probably the most surprising result was the chasm swing. I thought for sure it would mean Adam to the pit every time, but that tiny bit of friction made all the difference in the world.

Adam can drive. There is no doubt. However, Adam and Jamie took tuition in Wet Weather driving before they did the top up or top down in rain episode.... I therefore presume they will take tuition in anything they dont feel "Expert" in, just to make sure they dont get "You dun it rong" complaints?... And why not anyway....
BTW, I loved the behind the scenes (Disco site) on how they made the big ball thing... "Zorb ball", good way to go on thinking sideways.

I've played with a bullwhip a bit, and I was ready to accuse Adam of using bad technique - but then they pointed out the friction issue.

I guess I have just reached a point where I expect Adam to have had training in just about every oddball hobby there is. and yes, that is jealousy speaking.

This epuisode was cool and I didn't think Adam would be able to get across the chasm though.
It was neat he could use the bullwhip the way he did.
What happened to the ball thing? Did they have Adam run while it ran him down? Episode ended before they showed that.

Why did they go two high on the shipping containers? Single height was have proved the same thing and would have been simpler to set up.

Got a chance to watch this one this afternoon.
Overall, a good episode. I haven't timed the intro clip to compare it to last week's, but it didn't feel like it was as draggy.
I'm with TLW -- with all the work Adam's put into learning how to make bullwhips, I would have expected him to already know how to use them.
Were there any complaints on Facebook/the live-watch stream about the guys calling it a Mayan temple? (The Mayans weren't in Peru.)

It was interesting they discussed the crack of the whip as a sonic boom. But, I felt that this had been done before and it had ( Ep. 82: Snow Special). They were testing whether the crack of a whip could cause an avalanche (it didn't). Overall, the episode was well done. I was also in the "I thought Adam was good with a whip" camp, though it was interesting to watch A&J receive instruction for the expert. Even Jamie picked up on it quickly...I guess you can teach an old walrus new tricks. I am envisioning a Mythbusters amusement park right now featuring evasive driving, swinging from a whip, and the Temple Run! How many of us would be able to get down the track without being hit by paintballs multiple times?!

Interesting point, I hadn't thought of that. Because he assumed the "indiana Jones hunch" rather than a standard running stance, did that effect his ability to elude the paintballs? It would appear that the hunch leaves his trailing shoulder within range of the paintball longer than a standard running stance would.

Question on the sonic boom. What part of the whip passed Mach1, and were they measuring that. They say it didnt pass the magic speed, but what about the tip as it "Curls" around the final point?.. was that travelling at mach1.......
Gotta go, its my day to be stabbed.

The tip of the whip or whatever it was they were measuring travelled at 1,200ft/s. The speed of sound is 1,125ft/s according to them. That makes it Mach 1.067 if my calculations are correct.

My guess would be the "popper" or tip of the whip as Craig said

and yes, my recollection is that it was confirmed, not busted. - and I believe they said something along the lines of "we were sure of it but we were actually able to get high speed footage of it."

I'm not a big Indiana Jones fan, but I loved how they tackled the myths. Well done. I must admit, my jaw dropped a little when Adam was on the roof with the whip and Jamie came up and asked him, "Can you hit anything with it?" and Adam's reply was, "You know, I've never actually tried." How can you know that much about whips and never have tried to hit anything with one!?
