it's reason I prefer rugby to football, crowd behaviour I was at Wembley for the match between New Zealand and Argentina we were there as neutrals in a crowd withNew Zealanders behind us Argentinians next to and this and the beer was flowing we had a light conversation cheered the other players and there was not the swearing etc at a soccer match.. A round was brought by some nice New Zealand blocks which included the Argetines as well. . I'm guessing for the association football fans, it's just another excuse to start a brawl. Contrary to the image I guess a lot of you guys have there is not much actually violence in British soccer grounds these days. The figures have dramatically reduced due to a number of reasons, policing, pricing fostering a better image. Even outside grounds the CCTV networks in many public areas we have make it easy to spot and deal with minor incidents early and stop them. www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/nov/03/english-football-hooliganismIt is just a lot more tribal that's rugby and there are many verbal insults and expletives thrown at each other.

Are we allowing Motor Sports on this thread?... Ok. So I will presume YES. It has come to my attention. There has been a massive fall-out between parties at the F1... Red Bull wanted Mercedes engines. When Toto Wolf picked himself up off the floor from laughing, he said no. Red Bull are the main rivals. Williams have Mercedes engines, and as of next year, Manor Marussia have also asked to run Mercedes engines, and its been suggested that Mercedes will use Manor as a feeder team for the main Mercedes team, same way that Torro Rosso do for Red Bull. So Merc do NOT want their rivals knowing their secrets.... and Red Bull have demanded that they get the "A" package engine, as in exactly the same upgrades as the main Merc team.
Well, it boiled over, and Bernie has been involved, asking why Merc are being so nasty about it?... In so much that if you watched the last F1 race, "Allegedly"
Alegedly, Lewis Hamilton did all the laps, allegedly he came in for tyres, allegedly Nico Rosberg did the same, but, as Bernie own the TV rights, allegedly he has told the TV cameras to "Not show Mercedes" Well, they had to show part of the overtake into the first corner, and shots of other cars near to Merc, but they did their best to upset sponsors buy NOT showing the Merc cars unless absolutely necessary....
Again, allegedly. But I watched the whole race, and I didnt see as much of the Merc cars as was expected. Other than "Background" shots, the only bit you saw was him crossing the line.... The line that has already been crossed by one B Eclestone, charges of "Bullying" .
I so hope all this is not true and just another press speculation.... But my own "Bothan" in the pit lanes has told me there is some truth to the rumours.
Meanwhile, Renault are "Allegedly" putting the squeeze on Lotus by NOT announcing they will buy the team in a hope of devaluing the assets... some talk has been of making the team fold then buying the remainder from the receivers (Financial, not line-backers...)
Oh Dear. This used to be the best of the best, now its all "Money talks".
My own view?... there needs to be competition in F1 between Engine makers. You have seen the (unfolding) trouble of VW group, there needs to be more engine makers than just them. Renault need to get better. Honda need to do something as well. Ferrari are improving. Mercedes are the best at the moment, and ONLY at the moment, they are only as good as their last race, the one before that was dreadful.
Who else is there?...
Will Toyota be coming back?...
And who the hell is doing the American teams engines?.. (Are they any good I wonder?.. I do hope so...)
This is NOT all about the driver. This is about engine development for the good of motoring everywhere... Smaller engines less noise less waste and efficiency. That has to be good for us all doesnt it?
If the all had the same car, it would be boring.

breesfan... what happened to the Saints this week? @oz... I like your commentary/post from: Sep 26, 2015 at 7:41pm Would that be the one about Europeans getting over the "foot" part of football and actually trying to understand the game before they knock it? I think the time stamps on the posts are region specific, because on my end, I can't see that I posted anything with that time stamp. Yes, that would be the one. I neglected to think about the time stamp being specific to me, sorry about that

Last night was MNF (Monday Night Football) here in the states and my Green Bay Packers easily defeated the Kansas City Chiefs.
My dad and his siblings are originally from Independence MO and as a result are Chiefs fans. However, dad has lived in WI much longer than in MO and is a big Packers fan (Who wouldn't be, the Packers are awesome!). He was lucky enough to get tickets for the game last night and decided to take his sister, who is a HUGE Chiefs fan. From the sound of things, they had a great time. Packers fans are known for being 'nice' and even if they harass a little, it's all in fun.

so if people want to buy engines from a competing team, let the competing team sell them the basic block an say "there you do, tweak it as you will - otherwise we might as well make our pits twice as big and slap our name on your car"

Sounds like a whole load of manufactured drama. Are the TV ratings hurting? Is attendance down at the track? It's safe to state that anything that Eccleston is attached to is purely profit driven. Chevrolet. I know they make the engines for the US IndyCar teams, so I assume they're making the F1 engines also. You don't hear much about Ford or Dodge in racing outside NASCAR and its associated series. This is quite true. Yes, we 'Muricans enjoy racing as much as everyone else....even when they're turning left AND right.

He once went to Lambeau Field for a game between the two rivals (I think it was in 2002). Being from Europe and being used to soccer fans hating each other to the point of getting violent, he was trying to hide his Vikings jersey until he got into the stands with the other Viks fans. For some reason (I don't remember why) he had to open his jacket out in the parking lot, so people could clearly see the purple color on his shirt. When a Packers fan, cheesehead on and all, called him over to his truck, he got a little nervous. Turned out pretty quickly he didn't have to be. The guy just thought he looked a little lost and wanted to ask if he needed some help finding his way around. "Oh, and by the way... You want a burger and a beer? We've fired up the grill next to my buddy's van. You're welcome to join. Game doesn't start for another hour." CULTURAL SHOCK!!! And this is apparently kind of normal. The only place I get the idea there's no love lost between fans is when the Jets play the Giants. Other than that, this seems to be pretty standard for NFL fans.

Let's just say that when FC Copenhagen plays Brøndby IF (both teams are from in and around Copenhagen, so there's a natural rivalry as to who becomes "Kings of the Capitol"), half the country is short on cops because they're all in Copenhagen to ensure riots don't break out. And that's not even the worst rivalry in Europe!

yea, it depends a bit who is playing who, and really is just "hardcore" groups that fight.
Even so, it's not a great idea to wear an ajax shirt anywhere near the feyenoord stadium....

The tension between Giants & Jets fans is similar to the animosity between Mets & Yankees fans in baseball. Though, while the Mets (Queens) & Yankees (Bronx) are crosstown rivals, the Giants & Jets share the same home stadium (MetLife Stadium). And, yes - while they are both New York teams in name, the stadium is actually in New Jersey... (I am a Mets/Giants fan...)

Sorry for you I find it necessary to sound the horn and remind the audience that my Mets had an outstanding second half of the season and already clinched their division. Meanwhile, the Yankees are hanging by a thread to the Wild Card bubble. On the other hand, the Giants are a work in progress... If you think it's hard being a Giants fan, try being a Rams fan. We haven't had a stable team since D**k Vermeil left and that's over a decade ago! The main problem is the QB spot. We were hoping Marc Bulger could pick up after Kurt Warner, but he couldn't. Then we hoped Sam Bradford could pick up after Bulger, but he couldn't. Now we're trying out Nick Foles, but he's got some harsh working conditions. He's got great receivers to work with (Kenny Britt, Tavon Auston, Brian Quick and Jared Cook at TE), but a lot of good that does you when your O-line can't buy you three seconds to work with after the snap. Defense isn't looking too bad, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why they've decided to lean on MLB James Laurinaitis! The guy is just not fast enough and isn't good enough at play recognition to lead a defense. Especially not when it comes to the pass. We've got some great corners, but they're often left hanging by the safeties. Why Cody Davis and Maurice Alexander don't get a shot at starting, I'll never figure out, because those guys are FAST, so at least they can catch up again when they get burned. That, and Davis has shown some promise on his play recognition during the preseason and the guy hits like you wouldn't believe! The only thing we've really got going for us on defense is our D-line and OLB Alec Ogletree. The secondary could be good if we just found some better safeties, because we have some amazing depth at cornerback! I'm starting to think Jeff Fisher only took the head coach gig for St. Louis to mess with the Rams after they cooked him and the Titans in the '99 Super Bowl...

Football and Violence, yeah, there was a bit of bother back in the 80's....
Now down in the league where Stalybridge Celtic play, its normal for the fans to swap ends at half time. Yeah, the pass each other... They shout some rivalries.... They even shake a few hands and pass judgement "You were bloody lucky there", and "the referee is a ......" You can guess what the referee is if you like, but I think you already know. Otherwise, you meet friends from other teams, all queue up at the same Burger van, and swap storied about other teams and how you do NOT want to be against them...
There were a few anarchy orientated groups in places like Millwall and Wimbledon. They have been dealt with. Its not acceptable to have anything but a vocal disagreement with opposing fans... The chants can be hysterical. On one game, Man C were winning by a goal at half time, so during the half time period, the Man U fans were regaled with a few "Songs" on how cr@p their team were playing.... After half time, aboit 30 seconds after the restart, Man U scored a "Hail Mary".... And another 2 mins saw another one. The Man C end were stunned. From the Mn U end, Stretford End, came the song..
Oh it all gone quiet over there Yeas its all gone quiet over there. Oh its all gone quite, Very {beeping} quite Oh its all gone quiet over there.
Some of the Football songs are legendary. We invented that. But I cant repeat them on here, as many of them are, well, Libellous to say the least, offensive, derogatory, and too risky for a PG13 rating.... The loudest singers in the crowd are the kids, but we must "Pretend" that they should not be exposed to such filth...
You have to be there to understand. A 40 thousand mixed voice Choir is something to witness... especially when they are taking the rise out of the other team, and even better when you get a response in a song from them... Man U against Liverpool, they had gone a little quiet, so the chant goes up "Scousers scousers give us a song...." We take turns singing, only broken for a mass cheer or groan as a ball either finds the woodwork or the back of the net. (Dependant on which side you support...) Get to the Wembley when Liverpool play and sing the Anthem, "You'll never walk alone", and you have BOTH sides joining in, 90,000 people in various keys pitches and timing, but it works.
The WORST violence comes at certain european games now... Some of it is about Racism. which is sad.

That would be right. Bu a 60,000 seater stadium may have had just 100 of a "club" or far right neo-nazi racist plonka's there to start the fight, one person hits another, they hit some0one else, it sort of gets popular. The vast majority, say 99% of true football fans, would not have gone with intention to start violence. When camera's were introduced and the few who started it were recognised and started to become the usual suspects, they discovered the truth, that these anarchistic [removed][removed] had gone to the game with the sole intention of creating trouble.
"We went to a fight and at half time a football match broke out"
The clubs got together and started handing out bans for the usual suspects, and notifying each other of who the troublemakers were, by name picture and video. Some of these false fans are still serving lifetime bans from all football games.
When they got that into play, there number of fights dropped almost immediately, and good will broke out again. Its not a war, it may be a war of words, it may be that unkind things are said between rival fans in the bar, but it never goes as far as to be harmful... Offensive?... [√] Derogatory?...[√] Deflating?....[√] "Wounding" to mummys special snowflake?... [√] Funny?........[√]
It HAS to be funny.
Yeah, its that special sort of sarcasm you only get when you are in England.
"I hear they have diggers in at Liverpool digging up the pitch behind the goals planting potatoes, so at least they have something to lift at the end of the season."
There was a REAL life incident where Manchester City had a break in at the club, they got as far as the trophy room.... Urban Legend has it that the police were looking for someone carrying 100yds of blue carpet. (Said after a period where they didnt get anything at all, no silverware, nada...)
