"Activated carbon" water filter
I have one on my water supply for tap drinking water.... So, its now due for replacement.
Its full of carbon granules.
I am starting to wonder, can it be "cleaned" and recycled?.. How do you re-activate a used activated carbon filter?..
I see suggestions of either soak it in hydrogen peroxide for 24hrs and oven bake (after a wash with clean water) or just oven bake... can it be that simple?...
OR...
Is it just easier all round if I just break it down clean out the inside and buy bulk activated carbon from a decent supplier.

I found, among all the home remedy pages, a page from an activated carbon supplier, and it looks like by the nature of the stuff, it is not really effective to try to clean it, yourself. following that, I found this page from a "reactivator" which specifies the "reactivation" process involves heating it to 800 degrees. www.chemvironcarbon.com/en/activated-carbon-reactivation

Most of them seem to be cheap enough that I wouldn't waste my time trying to reactivate one.

Cheep enough, yes, but getting hold of the new cartridges can be a pain. If I can now source a supply of the carbon, I can unscrew the cartridge, clean, and refill it... Thats easy. Just cant find the carbon in UK "At this time" that isnt a Fish Tank only use.

i've found that activated carbon cartridges weren't worth it back when living in NL. nowadays in finland even less so. Tap water is clean enough, no need to bother with that crap.
