This film is supposed to be an account of the Essex, the whaling ship whose misfortune served as the inspiration for the work "Moby d**k".
As a drama, it's mediocre.
As a historical piece, it's terrible. The people who did the film took such great liberties with the facts that they could have simply changed the names and had a new story.
As a depiction of people resorting to desperate means to survive, it's as shocking as the PG-13 rating will allow.
Given the third element, my official review will read "Rating: Withheld" due to the varying sensitivities of my readership. Fortunately, by sheer coincidence it'll run opposite a re-run of my column reminding parents about what the MPAA's movie ratings system means.

I was wondering if it was going to turn out to be an overwrought camera exercise. sounds like my instincts were correct.

I think the resuming of whaling in the Antarctic by the Japanese to make this topic a little too sensitive at the moment....
To make a film of that?...
This is already on my "Ignore" list.,,/

Sounds like it may be a case of the viewer trying to put more into the film than was ever intended to be in the film.

Now this just makes the book sound like porn... Way to go, swear filter. Doesnt matter that the shortened version of Richard is d**k. Its also a well used name at that... d**k Emery, a well known TV star, d**k Turpin, a well known highwayman, .. It hits the "Rude word" filter, so lets BAN it?... I know, Irony.

Several TV shows were cancelled on the day of Twin Towers because they may have been seen to be insensitive....
Timing is everything.
