I'm seeing teasers for a MacGyver reboot. coming in September, time will tell if it has the same magic as the original.

The way I see it, if you do the math then the MacGuyver character in this new series could well be the grandson of the original character.
Think about that a second.
The final episode of the series revealed that Mac had a son who was already late teens (give or take). It's now almost 25 years later, so...

I thought I recalled it being over before that. apparently this is a reboot, not a continuation, though.

Its a reboot, not a continuation.
The TV series ran for seven seasons, but was followed by two TV movies produced in conjunction with British broadcasters and filmed in the UK.
Trivia; One of the TV movies included a young actress who would go on to star in Game of Thrones as Cersi Lanister.

Who is doing McGyver?.. Richard [Dean] Anderson has got too old... who would replace him?. Richard Dean being the Stargate -ex -McGyver Anderson where as plain Richard Anderson was the six-million-dollar one when looking at the Richard Anderson's in the picture business.

I just watched an episode if the new series & all I can say is well thats an hour of my life I'll never get back. No new plots or situations at all! All they've done is take old shows & reworked them to fit in with curent tech. Whole thing is not worth the effort if you ask me.

I just hope the new Mythbusters show doesn't end up being a train wreak as well. Not sure I can stand seeing two of my favorite shows trashed so badly.

I don't view it as being that bad - but to me, it is better than some of the other stuff on TV.

Most Tech stuff in the old series was from the 1970s and older so it was pure Switch&Bang Technology, easy to mess with and the audience could see what is going on. With modern SMD electronics, there is not much you can do without lab equipment. Also most tricks to fool the enemy was was based on the lack of instant communication.
