www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43933056You may or may not have been aware of this over the last few weeks, its another degenerately ill child with no hope of cure that has been centre of a battle with the medical experts and parents over who has the right to say we cant help him any further. The particular sides of this storey have no interest to me just yet. The protesters have got me rilled up... Alder Hey hospital is a Children's hospital built away from any disturbances so that desperately ill kids could get some peace and quiet and be allowed to get better. In the past few weeks, it has seen pitched battles between chanting protesters and police/security over the right to withdraw life support. I now ask all those protesters if they are proud of themselves for bringing the noise and disturbance to the doors of a CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL that has disturbed greatly the children and the parents of other life threatening cases within?. Do you now believe forcing your way in to confront the staff inside was a wizen idea?. Do you think chanting with LOUD HAILERS making it plain you wanted to gain the attention of the staff inside was a good plan when the chanting and loud-hailers also disturb the children who were probably wondering if the world was about to end and were they safe from the "Mob"? Do you believe blockading the roadway preventing the parents of other seriously ill children from getting to see their own kids was a good plan?. Preventing staff from getting in, doctors and nurse4s who were not ever involved in the case, but had other patients to work with, preventing them getting in or out to work, was THAT a good plan?. Just how much anguish have you created for the people dealing with probably the worst period of their lives and the caring staff around them, just to bring attention to YOUR chosen case, which may be the last thing in the mind of a parent with an ill toddler?. Proud of yourselves are you?. As for Alfie, Rest in Peace, this is the worst thing any parent can go through, my deepest sympathy. At least the father saw sense, and how this was affecting other parents and children. You already know my views, if not, feel free to go back and review them. They haven't changed. and now you know mine. That, I do. And did. There are some things on which we agree, and many we will never agree on. This appears to be one of the latter.

For anyone looking for substances that help promote sleep, but want to stay away from next day grogginess (or, want to avoid those agents that bring about anticholinergic effects), I think I've stumbled across some stuff worth exploring:
Glycine Taurine Hops Passionflower
These are all powdered when I get them. I just mix them up with boiling hot water to make a disgusting flavored tea.
3/4 spoon powdered Glycine. 1/2 spoon powdered Taurine. Spoon full passionflower. Spoon full hops (each of these last two are dried and powdered flowers)
I also include a 250 mg tablet of magnesium.
If that isn't quite enough, one could add valerian root too (half spoon, powder), but this one can make a person a touch groggy the next day even though it isn't considered anticholinergic.
Plus, there is Melatonin. But, it's a hormone, and you'd be replacing what the body makes anyway. So, verdict is out on how reasonable Melatonin treatments are for the long run. But, every once in a while 5mg Melatonin is helpful too.
And, also, Phosphatidylserine is worth investing, if need be.

Or you could go with one shot of Southern Comfort.
I’ve tried melatonin, but it had no effect whatsoever.

Mrs T has melatonin prescribed as part of her evening pill regimen. I've found a tablespoon of call-gods-won't-leave-you-alone-until-3-in-the-morning is pretty effective.

As I mentioned earlier, because of an insect infestation earlier in the year I started sleeping in the living room because I was afraid of transferring them into my room.
I alternated between sleeping on a recliner and sleeping on the floor while doing this. Sleeping in the chair had me upright so my sinuses weren't bothering me, but put pressure on my tailbone. Sleeping on the floor had me flat, relaxing my back but leaving me dealing with post-nasal drip. I generally had poor sleep because of it, and often woke up with my lower legs swollen.
My parents finally realized that my legs are swollen when I wake up, and so are tentatively letting me sleep on the new couch we have (had to get rid of the old one as one of my nephews didn't tell us he spilled juice into the internal portions). I also picked up a cheap "storage" ottoman for when I do have to sleep in the recliner so I can put my feet up. I'm sleeping much better now (only shifting a little as needed to relieve pressure) and my lower legs aren't as swollen.
However, my mom is going nuts thinking I have cellulitis and so is after me about every bit of salt I have. My cardiologist, however, thinks the swelling is as much about how I've been sleeping as it is just the raw stress of dealing with the infestation and that it should go away on its own once sanity returns.

I have a chronic maxillary sinus infection on the left side bad enough that it effectively mimics sleep apnea all on its own. I was prescribed Budesonide, which is usually used for respiratory problems. But doctors have recently discovered its effectiveness in sinuses. I put one ampoule in with the salt packet for the Neilmed "Neti pot" style saline rinse. It never worked for me, though. For me, it ultimately made my sinuses bleed a bit. Doesn't do that to everyone, though. In fact, Budesonide was heralded as one of the few steroids believed to not do that, or thin membranes like other steroids do. Maybe, ask your doctor about Budesonide since using it for sinusitis is a recent development. I recently found this, however: a new kind of Simply Saline, having menthol or eucalyptus. "Simply Saline Nasal Mist, Extra Strength Plus ... with calming Eucalyptus." I found it, unexpectedly at Walmart. I used to really enjoy 4-Way saline mist with Menthol... but they discontinued that. So far, the new Simply Saline is pretty good.

Not only did the military hospital I went to put the catch basin for the stomach pump on my lap (allowing me to see what was being pulled from my stomach), the nasal tubes they decided I needed got crammed in place and left me with permanent damage to my sinuses, to the point that they forced the hole between my sinuses and my throat to be super-wide. I now go between "choking from post-nasal drip" to "choking because my throat is so dry".

Slowly trying to adjust my diet to be healthier, such as finding *unsalted* tortilla chips at the grocery store.
But a key element of what I'm dealing with is stress levels, with things like "My dad leaving the brand-new computer on all night because he forgot to actually turn it off" not helping. It doesn't matter how much I change my diet or exercise if I can't get my stress levels down.

I also need to finally remember to try and pick a therapist from the list I was provided by the hospital to help me with my autism. Every time I think about doing that I get distracted.

you can fix dad leaving the brand new computer on all night, through software. on my laptop, you go to settings, system, power & sleep; to get to the settings for what it does if it's left idling. I would expect it to be the same on a desktop only without the "on battery" line in the power & sleep menu. I have mine set to go to sleep if I leave it idling for an hour; and turn off the screen after a half hour (plugged in)

addendum: I'm on my second mountain dew of the morning. we're planning for an end of year price increase at the car wash, so I have to translate current price levels ($X.xx for Y minutes) to seconds per coin, and adjust seconds per coin and then translate back to price levels, then adjust for what will provide a reasonable balance of coins for an appropriate working time for the customer, keeping in mind that customers cannot wrap their brains around letting one coin drop before stuffing in another one. meanwhile, we've got locks sticking on the new shampoo vac, which we still haven't found a longer shampoo brush hose for. also, it can take (dollar) tokens, while the simple vacs can't, so we're trying to set its price to even dollar amounts, so people can run it on tokens - which we will be able to sell in credit card transactions, now, because the delay in getting the card reader modem reprogrammed is interfering with the automatic wash, so Mrs T was going to add in another credit card processing service, until I looked up and found the service we are switching to (you'll remember we started the process by ending our former service last week) also can do a freestanding card processing capability, so now we're going to have the ability to do direct sales by credit card. - and we're still waiting for a bid to add card readers to the self serve bays. - so until we get the card reader at the automatic back up and running, we will have an on-site attendant to process credit card sales of tokens or coupons, and we should probably have vending products available, too. (towels)
just in case you're feeling alone in your stress levels.

A part of me is yearning to head out somewhere, try my luck in starting over, and see what happens while I still have some level of physical and mental ability to do so. Another part of me is saying that if I leave, this entire town is probably done for. I'm basically propping up my parents, the newspaper, and based on the reactions I get a number of local charities. I'm also helping to hold up the congregation I go to, and am doing a fair bit online for various groups as well.
