This is the place to deposit the words that just dont make sense, are not needed, are rather annoying, and need to be removed from circulation. It may be the opposite of the "Expand the dictionary" thread...?.. citadelofmyths.freeforums.net/thread/1904/wordplay-expand-dictionaryWhy yes it is, quite true. But you all know I have a fascination with Words, their origins, why they are what they are, and this is the place I am going to put some of the less useful or just confusing?.

First entry. This is one that can go straight to deep storage...
Grapefruit
What is that?.. why is that?. we already have a fruit called grape. That would be a Grape Fruit would it?. The fruit of the grape plant?. Grape, its small, sweet, and easy to eat. So why confuse it with a large leathery skin sour faced twisted orange and lemon flavoured acidic clean your insides out type thing?.
I aint sure if its the word or the fruit, or BOTH, but I think this needs consideration for at least one of them, the word, to be designated as not fit for use.

Modern Art
Lets start at the beginning. Modern.... Erm, excuse me for thinking this, but, when Michelangelo spent a few years on his back doing the ceiling of the chapel with the long brush getting paint spatters in his eyes on a daily basis, did they call that "Old" art?.
I think not.
Therefore, all art was "Modern" when it was invented wasnt it?.
Then the bit that says the term is used for stuff "After a certain time" that is of a certain genre that doesnt make it easily identifiable. I have it on good authority from other posts in this forum that I speak for a few when I say if it has to be explained to me, and by me, I mean we, and presuming we are all reasonably intelligent on here and reasonably educated, if it has to be explained to us, then its not really art is it?.
Can it be replaced by Toff-Snob-Art, therefore denoting it as a piece designed for as PT Barnum would say those who fit the bill of "A Fool and his Money are soon parted" there is one born every minute, and they are "That man".
Therefore, there is real art, and then there is the art that is for those with more money than sense. We the real people dont need to know about that art.

Dyslexia
I had to rely on my spell checker to ensure I got that spelt right?. Who on earth thought it was wise to give that term to people who have problems organising letters in the right order?.
Enough said?.

oh, lordy, the opportunities.
"Impacted" as used in ANY context not talking about wisdom teeth. (credit to somebody else)
"Monetize" we do not need a word that gives people the idea finding ways to extract profit from something that is already happening is a thing worth doing.

[spoken word] Lolz or even lols. To start with, if it was that funny, why abbreviate it?. Then Laugh, like sheep, is its own plural. LOL is an "Internet acronym", its not supposed to invade real life anyway.

Over use of the word "Like"
Its like you know like when your kid, like, starts trying to say something, like, and cant remember like how to say "erm" like?. Most of the time, you know what I mean, like, it doesnt even mean like like?.
