"GDPR", General Data Protection Regulation, its all kicking off here in europe on how companies handle your data, and many people are getting LOTS of email from companies that now need permission to keep your data.
It may be Proboards have now decided they need to update their data protections as well.

Twitter and Google are also updating their privacy policy; If/when you get these DO read through them as the default settings basically allow them to collect and share information with anyone they like. You can change these settings later on, although I'm sure the way to get to them is as well hidden as they feel they can get away with.
The reason for these changes is changes in European online data protection laws. It's easier and faster for these companies to change their own policies worldwide than to try and change them in just one or two areas.

I just did the twitter thing, it had a lot of "share your date with" and something about uploaded contacts, that I asked them to delete any uploaded contacts from any device other that those I had entered manually, I also ticked "no" to most of their share date, except the one stating allow collection of anonymous data in cases of crash to analyse problems.
Facebook... the european parliament are pressuring Zukerberg to split up facebook because its too bloody big and breaks some monopolies rules. Dont understand yet what bits they reference, but face-toob has been busy buying up and amalgamating other oppositions.

on a related note, the courts have ruled that since nope uses twitter as an official communication, he is not allowed to ban anyone from commenting to his twits. he can "mute" them so HE doesn't have to see people criticizing them, but he cannot prevent anyone else seeing it.

Yes, the emails and constant pop ups on websites at the moment are a little annoying, but I can live with it, because it's all a consequence of the EU for once actually doing one of the major things it was originally put in the world to do: Trying to protect consumers from unscrupulous, greedy mulitnational corporations that would be all but impossible for any single country to effectively regulate.
I wish they would focus more of their energy on stuff like this and stay out of things they really shouldn't be touching. If they'd done that long ago, "Brexit" might never have been a word.
