and not to be a spoiler, but they were simply testing whether they could fire an ice cannonball, not making a comparison.

I had been waiting for this episode to air since it was first proposed on the old Disco boards, and I was so glad they finally tested it. While it seems like the cannons themselves could have been engineered a bit better to be more resilient, and tests should probably not have been done in the dead of summer in California but in conditions more appropriate for Siberia, still, it was an interesting physics experiment.
