Apparantly, one of the myths that was tested for the "Mini Myth Medley" last night was the video of the fireman breaking a car window by tapping it. C, G & T discussed it in the aftershow video, so I know they filmed it, but I didn't see it on the show and can't find mention of it on the MB Wikipedia page.
Anyone have any info? I know we here in the US get a trimmed-down version of the show to accomodate more commercials; did you Brits get to see that particular segment?
I'm particularly interested to know if they made note of the fact that you can see the spring-loaded punch in the guys hand near the end.

Thanks! I note that although they mentioned a punch as one possibility, they made no mention of the fact that you can see one in the video. And given Discovery's propensity to shelter the US audience from anything even remotely naughty - no matter how banal - I see why they didn't air that segment: Personal vibrator? Tory's attempt not reaching climax? Kari taking it to put "in storage"? Wouldn't want to offend anyone.

I'm particularly interested to know if they made note of the fact that you can see the spring-loaded punch in the guys hand near the end. Yeah, that was pointed out immediately when the video hit the 'net. In metal working it's referred to as an "automatic center punch", it's a low precision tool for premarking/guiding a drill bit. Proper craftsmen, machinists/tool-makers prefer the manual (prick, punch & hammer) approach for better accuracy. Breaking tempered glass doesn't require any accuracy and is ridiculously easy with a $5 auto-punch. I can totally understand why Disco wouldn't air the procedure.

I knew about using an automatic center punch to break tempered glass some 35 years ago, when I tried it on some old auto side windows.
You are right, it is probably not a good idea to show someone how easy it would be to break glass with a tool like that.

I was thinking more of the slightly risque nature of Tori's attempt and the comments that followed, actually.
But I can see where they might not want to show how easy it is with a relatively common (and easy to conceal) tool.

A few series ago, didn't Jamie and Adam test different methods of breaking car glass in case of being ending up underwater? I seem to remember that they tested a "auto-punch" and a hammer gadget, which they both agreed they now carry in their cars.

I note they totally ignored the fact that 50% of the window was hidden behind the firefighter's body. - which included the instructor's hand.
interesting thing is without the window punch, we commonly take windows out by hitting a halligan tool with a flathead axe - MUCH harder than the punch hits.
