I am sure all of us are familiar with films of early attempts at flight. It has led me to question whether it was purely design shortcomings or if modern materials and technology can make some of those old contraptions fly, so here is the challenge:
1: the key elements of the design must be based significantly on an early aircraft which failed to fly. 2: to be considered a successful flight, the aircraft must take off under its own power, make a controlled flight and land without damage. 3: materials, control systems, and motors may all be modern, and early attempts at airfoil technology may be improved to modern profiles. 4: for safety, live passengers will not be necessary, and aircraft may be of any scale suitable to the build.
