At the moment, the Discovery website is saying there will be a new MB episode (with the above title) on July 10.
Their online schedule doesn't go far enough ahead to say whether this is a one-shot or the start of a new batch of episodes.
(And darn it, that's the same night as RiffTrax Live: Sharknado. Gotta get a solid answer from some friends on which night we're going to go see that.)

Thursday July 10 9:00 PM 60 min. Fire in the Hole TV-14 The MythBusters tackle some of Hollywood's favorite explosive scenarios. Could a hero really shoot a live grenade in midair and thus render it useless? Could you really contain a TNT explosion inside an ordinary object like a file cabinet or aquarium? I ran across this article while looking up the new episode that says they restructured the shooting schedule and there will be fewer episodes. And it looks like it is costing Beyond International. www.smh.com.au/business/media-and-marketing/mythbusters-blows-up-beyond-international-profit-20140623-3aorz.htmlMOD EDIT: Please discuss this story in the water cooler in the thread: "It's called show BUSINESS". Thanks!

"...could an exploding water heater extinguish a house fire?" Fire departments use a bit more than 50 gallons of water to extinguish a house fire. The 2.5" pump puts out 300-800 gallons per minute. Production costs: You have 3x the viewers on shows like Deadliest Catch, Swamp People (wrong network, but it's the genre I want). Amish Mafia & Naked And Afraid & Ax Men pulls in double the viewers. Extremely low production costs and many more viewers. The same number of people that watch Mythbusters weekly watch Treehouse Masters.

as far as water volume - I think the rough number is 3 gallons per square foot - if a house fire is big enough for the water heater to blow out from the outside heat - I think its too big for it to put out - its kind of a scaled up exploding extinguisher - the detonation has more chance of blowing out the fire than the water to douse it.
