Garden Birds, territorial between species?..
We are kind of led to believe by Wildlife shows that one species will fight for territory....
Against all other species as well....
I say thats wrong.
This is strange, I dont know how "Interesting", but its something I am noticing.
The absolute lack of territorial "Fights" between species.....
And almost an extended "Family" .
I have been studying and taking note.
In the case of Great Tits, Blue Tits, Coal Tits and Long-Tailed Tits in my garden, absolutely nothing for ages, and then a whole "Flock" of all of them at the same time.....
Arguments?...
Some, but mostly, "Oy, thats MY bit"....
No "You aint welcome here" from say the Coal to the Blue or even the Great...
Maybe some "Your old enough to feed yourself" from parent to youngsters when they try to take what the adult is eating.
I have a whole flock of Sparrows, mixed House and Tree sparrow, or hedge sparrow, and frequent bickering amongst the adults in pecking order, but they ignore other species on general, and will happily feed alongside any other garden bird, and, as we have Blackbirds, they are often seen together.
I am therefore wondering if the greater flock of mixed species is perhaps safety in numbers.
The spoilers in the pack are Pigeons, who are greedy and will chase off other birds to prevent them getting food, and starlings, who will just take what they can.
