OK, (response to a post on the MB boards).... "7181 at 0100Z for the next few Sundays and maybe we can still QSO."
I will try to be there. Sounds like we have more people interested in checking in. NATA and OMISS have nets at that time near 7.184-7.186 so listen in on the low side or the nearest clear freq.
Sounds good. Now that summer is over, I should have a little more free time Sundays. If anyone want's to try moving to a weekday, that's fine with me also.
I will try and make it, I sometimes forget, and for some reason still have problems with my tuner. OMISS is at 7185, and I sometimes still get QRM off of that. I still like the weekday a little better. I have a local net here at 2000 CT so I have to be clear for that, but otherwise I good.
BTW if any of you are going to be in the area Saturday, we are going to have a Hamfest here.
Well, it is the "Mythbusters Radio Net" Anybody with a ham license is invited to join in. (some FCC restrictions may apply) You can also join in by just listening if you have a suitable short wave receiver.
Well that's good to hear since almost 10% of the members on this board are ham radio operators that were senior members that came over from the old boards.
Just for the heck of it -- I am heading over to the shack and will be on 7181 in few minutes. I am bored, so might as well listen on the radio, if anyone is there call CQ. 73
Congratulations -- you made it, good for you (now it is on to Extra LOL)
For a HF rig -- try Craig's List. If you have a local hamfest, or swap net, is another place to start. There are also other places on-line like Hamcity and such. I would say -- unless you want to pay to get a new one -- try looking at getting a used rig. I (we, my father and I) got an Icom 718 off Craig's List (as it turned out was a member of out own club). Just ask around with other local hams.
As a side note -- our club had out first hamfest today, and we did testing. We had 12 show up, and a few made Extra (including the club president). I just contacted W5YI and am going for my VE, so hopefully in a few weeks I will be a VE, and able to help out with the testing.
But, this is your day so enjoy your AG and good job!!!
The annoying part is that the local VE group is really good about getting paperwork in quickly and turned around fast. Once they submitted my tech paperwork, I got my call sign in 3 days. So I'll get my official General license long before I can actually have a setup running to take advantage of it. So I really won't get a chance to use the "Slant AG" suffix on air. Bit of a bummer.
"In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move." -- Douglas Adams.
Are you going for a vanity call or keeping the one you have?
When I applied for my vanity, I was going to reclaim my old expired call but never was too crazy about it. I ended up getting K9 and my 3 initials. It's not an extra call but it works for me.
Had hoped to make the QSO tonight but not sure I can now. I took my dipole down last week with the intention of relocating it to a better position. I was going to do that this morning. The wind is so strong (38MPG gust just now) that my antenna structures keep moving around. Thought that would stop when all the leaves came off.
May still be able to get it up. If not, next week for sure.
Nets are all over the place. Can we move down to 7.175+? The General class can't go below that. If we are all extras, we can go lower. I will be moving around 7.175 to 7.182
