In a deal hammered out in February, Google agreed to reserve space near the top of its European search pages for competitors, which would be open to rivals to bid for via an auction.
This may spread worldwide.
Thing is, if I sell you a wardrobe, should I be forced to tell you that there are wardrobes available at Home Depot before we agree the sale?....
Ok, so maybe this is not exactly the same, but its in the same ball park, why SHOULD Google be forced to advertise other search engines on its own results?....
It also annoys me that the first few results on a search page are "Sponsored" links... "Adverts" if you will, and probably not what I am actually looking for....
As in, your looking for cars, the first result is "This item is for sale at Big Daves silly price auto store, visit us to find out more".....
All I wanted was the side image of a ford escort MK1 "Mexico" to find out the type face used on the work "Mexico"....
I didnt want to buy a NEW ford Escort?... they dont make them any more, so it would be a Focus anyway, so why is there a link saying "Buy this item New or Used on Flee-by-up-a-blooming-tree website?...
Google may be "Forced" to allow competitors to bid for space at the top of the search results page?...
Hmm....
I see Adblock Plus having a neat plan to find out how "Sponsored" links get there and find ways to block the bloody pests.
I know someone is trying that already...
I also know someone at google is trying to stop them.

Why do I use BBC links so often?.... because I can trust the whole site, and some stories I look at are on "Not so safe" sites to begin with.
