Stephen Amell, who is the star of the CW show Arrow, does a heck of a lot of charity work through Facebook. His recent drive (and a long standing one) is for a charity called F*** Cancer (The actual name is a banned word, but you can work out what that is) Stephen asked his Facebook followers to help him design a tee-shirt and hoodie he could put on sale for a limited time to raise money for this charity. His original goal was to sell 500 shirts, he hit that mark in about an hour and as of writing has sold almost 3000. (In fact he will probably have passed the 3000 total by the time I post this) Not bad considering that these have only been on sale for two days. Because not many of you seem to be on Facebook I thought that it might be helpful to post the link for the ordering site; represent.com/stephen There are tee-shirts, hoodies, sweaters and tank tops (as of writing), international delivery and all the profits go to a good cause. So even if you have no idea who Stephen Amell is this is for a good cause and worth letting people know about. The shirts are on sale until the end of September 2014. CM

A quick update on this for those who were following/interested in this particular charity drive. Or possibly a minor guilt trip for those who didn't;
The campaign has now finished, with the grand total being...
...I'm going to make you wait for a moment longer.
The prior record which Stephen was hoping to beat was some 8000 shirts sold. He was in fact joking about wanting to beat the top three prior campaigns (other celebrities were involved in those, their names escape me right now).
Stephen may well have managed this, as his grand total was 21,503 shirts, hoodies, sweaters and tank tops sold. I don't have the final total yet, but my estimate based on earlier totals for the number of shirts sold comes to some $430,006. The sweaters and hoodies were more expensive, which is why estimating an exact total is difficult. But we seem to be looking at $400,000 or thereabouts raised - I'll update when Stephen gives a more specific total.
If you still want to support the charity you can check out nockingpointwines.com Stephen is the co-owner of this winery*, and a portion of all sales go towards various charities - F*** Cancer being just one of them. If you are in the US you can order wine**, as you might of guessed, but they alas can't ship outside the US. Not to worry though as they do have some other items for sale which they can ship overseas.
(*Anyone who manages to raise THAT amount of money for charity - and this is FAR from the first charity drive Stephen has done on Facebook - deserves to get some advertising for their business. Especially when said business is also supporting charities)
(**They can't ship to every state as of writing. There are a few they have not yet sorted out distribution routes for, and five or six that don't allow wine to be imported. Check the site for where they can currently deliver wine.)

You actually reminded me of an important update on this.
Stephens drive was so successful, AND he is being asked where to get the shirts from so often, that he and Represent have got together to do something they have NEVER done before; They will be reopening the ordering line for 24 hours.
This will start at midnight 30th October (EST) and run for exactly 24 hours before closing for the last time. Although it seems reasonably likely that Stephen will have a similar charity drive at some point, these shirts will not be available to buy after this last drive - unless you see one on Ebay, and then the money isn't going to any charity.
To reiterate some points;
There are a more than just teeshirts available, there is a sweater, hoodie and tank top as well. They will deliver anywhere in the world (the deliveries are carried out by UPS). The shirts etc would seem to be handsome and of good quality - as evidenced by Stephen wearing one in at least one or two of his workout videos.
Fans of Arrow might also be interested in knowing that Stephen has also posted at least one from the set picture of him in his full Arrow costume, under which he was wearing one of the teeshirts. So if you are watching the show around episode seven and notice Arrow has a grey shirt under his jacket, that would be one of the F*** Cancer shirts. (It is even possible, although unlikely given the logo, that one of the shirts might turn up being worn by someone at some point slightly more openly.)
This reopening of the orders is as far as I know unique, a never done before last chance to pick one up moment. If you don't have one ordered, or want another one, the 30th OCtober will be your last chance - take it.

*Update*
The drive has been reopened and extended from 24 hours to 48, Stephen having managed to sell over 7000 in some five hours.
To which I can only reply 'Holy Crap Arrow-man!'
The base shirts are also now available in a number of different colours, including green (naturally). So even if you already ordered one you can now get something in a different colour.

The reopened drive is now over, with Stephen having shifted more shirts in 48 hours than he managed to in the original 3 week drive.
The grant total in terms of shirts sold is 46,122 - which has utterly shattered the prior record of some 8,000. In fact he managed to not only beat the existing record but the combined totals of all prior drives (some 29,500). We're looking at a total of at least $831,000 raised for the charity. Wow.
Thank you to anyone who bought a shirt or who helped advertise this.

Believe me he's being praised and then some on FB. His drive was even mentioned in the Hollywood reporter a while back.
As the 'final' total is so close to a million people are asking him to reopen for a third time, or to do something like raffling off signed copies of some of the shirts to get the total to a million. I'd be surprised if he doesn't do something to try and get the total up to that figure. My best guess would be a raffle of signed versions, since he's done raffles before and this would only require Represent to print off another 50 or so shirts rather than another 10,500+
I'll keep you informed. He'll probably make a decision in the next few days, depending on how heavy his filming schedule is.

OK, bringing this back from Elysium for a while.
Stephen will be restarting the drive for a third time on friday, apparently he's been getting (in his words) a 'lot of passive aggressive comments about almost hitting a million'.
The shirts will be back on sale, and for those of you who were wary of wearing something with the 'F' word on it (even if partly obscured) a sanitized version will be available (It will say 'Fight Cancer' rather than 'F*** cancer').

Link for the new (and last, really this time)drive; represent.com/store/stephenTwo versions of the products are available, the family friendly and original versions. This includes a number of new designs/items including a shopping bag and all are available in several colours. Go tell your friends, family, co-workers...random strangers in the street. Even if you have one of these already get another, or something else.

It's an organization that works to stop bullying. Info here: standforthesilent.org/who-we-are.html#whoweareStill seems like a noble cause worth supporting, though. Just thought people should know what they're supporting by buying the shirt.

I support anti-bullying.
I have to, I have Kids. One of them a while back lost a tooth because some random twit had a bad day and my Kid was in the way.... He was only in the school because of the exclusion order swap school project that puts naughty kids in a neighbouring school rather than exclude them completely.
The kid was a bully. He then decided he was going to give more for no reason other than he was upset... My kid was defending as best he could, but the other kid was a lot bigger?...
My "Other" kid was up in front of the head for stomping in and giving the bully what he deserved... a playground breakfast.
When asked what I thought of it, I shook my kids hand in front of the head, and said "Well done for supporting your brother and preventing the fight getting any worse..."
Shock and surprise?... that I should defend my kids for fighting back?... The school has a no retaliation order, that no one should retaliate at all. I argue that in cases of extreme, especially when it cause actual injury, thats hogwash. I exempt my kids from that, I ask they defend themselves as best they can.
The school does not look favourably on me for that... They also didnt like it that I ordered the police to be involved and the bully prosecuted for aggravated assault and actual bodily harm.
My anti-bullying policy is more direct than the schools namby-pamby shake hands and make friends approach. When informed if I took that ahead, my other kid may be investigated for whatever, I said let it be. The police officer attending said no action would be allowed against my other id because he waded in to stop the fight, and that was all he was involved for.
The parents of the Bully were upset.... So my Wife being hysterical at my kid loosing a tooth was "nothing"?... Didnt we have a right to be upset as well?.

I've made the argument before that the "no retaliation" rule - when interpreted to mean "you're not allowed to defend yourself or others against attack" - is against basic human rights and therefore illegal. "Retaliation" and "self defense" are not the same thing!
