Fire extinguishers, indestructible?...
Ok, screw the neck off and pack 'em with Jamies friend, C4.....
But apparently, the Industrial ones, such as the heavy-as-lead ones on the back of my Wagon, are built to withstand a fire. I know you can run over them with a loaded wagon, I seen that done once, I have seen them after they have skidded down a motorway after coming loose, and maybe a little damage to the handles, but the body, "Good to go...", just repaint them and new stickers.
[edit.. I know they have to pressure test any extinguisher that is reported as possible damaged?...]
So how "Bulletproof" are they?...
Of course, discount the liklle 5lb ones they sell for domestic use in this test, you want the good ol' heavy ones you find in factories etc.
My Source said something along the lines of if you screwed the top off, packed them with Gunpowder and ignited it, what you have is a Rocket.
I can see that, I think maybe he is right on that. After all, what is a rocket other than a thick walled cylinder crammed full of explosive?...
Perhaps a rocket sledge test is due.
How heavy duty can you get the explosives before what you have is a rather large bomb?....

I am not sure the overpressure they test them to, but I know some styles are a high pressure cylinder.

They take them to I think twice expected normal use?... norm,al use is only a couple of bar at the most, especially the Water ones.
Thinking on this, I am thinking, if they ended up sat in a fire, wouldnt they have some form of pressure valve?... boiling water, makes steam, under pressure, that would eventually go bang?.... But that would be part of the handle bit I suspect, if you removed that and put a sealed top on the neck....

But that would be part of the handle bit I suspect, if you removed that and put a sealed top on the neck.... when they tested whether a fire extinguisher will explode and put out a fire, I believe they did defeat a burst disc safety relief.

I found out how they test SCUBA tanks, dont quote me on this, its approximate. They are water filled and submerged in a tank of water, then the water inside the tank is pressurised to about 70bar, the water outside the tank is displaced, of course, as the aluminium expands, they measure the amount of displacement, it has to be (IF I heard this right) less than 1%..... Deep diving cylinders may be thicker wall and higher pressure?.... I presume so. (This was a "How it works" program on Disco....)
I think pressure testing a Fire extinguisher is similar, I also believe construction methods, extrusion of a billet of metal, is the same.
Can someone find out?... it may be educational for the show?.... As in, google may give us the answers here, but this is a show idea, yeah?.....

I'm confused... What are we doing here?
Are we testing if fire extinguishers are indestructable (which we've seen before on the show that they aren't), that they can withstand fires, that they're bullet proof, that they can become bombs at high pressure or that they can become rockets if packet with enough gunpowder/explosives?
You're kinda leaving this one a little open-ended, don't you think?
