If the article is talking about Antioxidants, then they are actually saying coffee might be good for you. It relates to the Free Radicals theory of ageing and cell damage. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-radical_theory_of_aging#Antioxidant_therapyAntioxidants are said to help counter act this and so foods high in them are good for you if you belive this idea. So the coffee might not be as good as veggies, but better than other foods.

coffee flip flops more than any other consumable. coffee has beneficial properties, but none that cannot be gotten from another source - and it has negative properties, but none that cannot be gotten from another source.

www.caffeineinformer.com/Your average cup of instant coffee contains as much as ten times the caffeine content of your average cup of hot chocolate. Your average cup of brand-name coffee-shop coffee contains several times more caffeine than the average cup of instant coffee. Do the math, and you'll see that even in a healthy person "moderation" may be as few as one or two cups daily depending upon what a person drinks.

Does Caffeine cause cancer?.... I am trying to work out what the bad part of Caffeine is, apart from addictive. it spikes your blood pressure, and interferes with your natural tiredness regulating ability. Don't forget that it's a stimulant, and so has all of the nasty side effects of other stimulants. This includes "being fatal if a large enough dose is consumed in a short enough period of time" and "being able to aggravate preexisting stress, heart, stomach, and anxiety conditions."

Does Caffeine cause cancer?.... Doesn't everything these days? And wet timber gives you SARS, dontchaknow. No, seriously. I'm getting tired of these so-called reports that this and that causes cancer that are later retracted and now red wine is suddenly healthy and helps fight cancer cells, except the alcohol may give you liver or bowel cancer if you have too much, but then if you eat lots of rice you're fine, but then rice has arsenic which causes cancer, but then maybe it doesn't and rice is good for you in other ways and certainly less cercinogenic than potatoes and... SHUT UP ALREADY!!!Come back when you have ACTUAL RESULTS, instead of just "somewhat convincing implications" and stop bothering the rest of us with your fund-hunting quackery!!!

"It contains CAFFEINE" Run away screaming already.......
Caffeine has been proven to be a MILD stimulant, but it does not in any way make you "More" than you yourself on a good day. It does NOT over-clock your system. It prevents your system from "Winding down" or slowing down at the end of the day, it therefore is good for keeping you awake.
Intake of caffeine will bring you back up to the level you were at the last intake. That is it. It doesnt have super powers.
"In Moderation", again, if you ingest 20 times the usual intake of any food stuff it will create health problems. Eating 2lbs of creak cake per day will make you FAT....... We know this already, stop trying to scare us, ok?....

I hate to get anywhere close to "Show me the proof", but, who told you that?...
Caffeine makes you alert. It doesnt just raise your blood pressure for no reason... It more that you yourself raise the blood pressure by being less tired and more willing to get things done.

...the so-called white coat effect. my mother confirmed that - she had borderline high blood pressure for years. for context, she is also slightly overweight. she was waiting for a checkup one time, and the nurse breezed in and said, "okay, mrs W, now we're going to take your blood pressure and get your weight." she said, "no, you're not - you're just going to take my blood pressure." the nurse said, "what do you mean?" she told her, "every time I come in the doctor lectures me about my weight - so this time you're not going to weigh me so he can't lecture me about it." her BP was normal.

I was told I have High BP..... No short sherlock?....
I have a condition known as Postural Hypo-tension. (I think?.. medical terms are often confusing...) Basically, as explained to me by my Doc, I am tall, its a long way up. If I am sat at rest and have a lower BP, if I suddenly get up and walk fast to the Kitchen, it takes the ticker a few moments to "Catch Up".....
Anyway, I was rushed to hospital after some fool crashed a wagon backwards into a wall a few feet away from where I was sitting having a brew, and it scared several buckets of whats good for the roses outa me, so flew out of my seat, and collapsed.....
By the time the Doc got the monitor on my arm, I was cruising abut 1,000 ft up on Adrenalin, the heart had caught up with my panic, and was making up for lost time?....

... and there was the problem, "Where the patient lays" is not where they found me. Sure I dropped like a felled oak, but I wasnt shy about getting back on my feet with the WTF just happened and is everyone OK..... It was only when the ambulance arrived and took ME away that I started to worry?...
But this is well off topic.
So back on topic, assuming the test subject is of reasonable health... Also presume to be done in a non stressful environment where the subject has no pressure on them at all. As in, dont pick anyone who has gotta take a maths exam tomorrow either.....
Coffee raises the BP.
Test, allow a person to sit and rest. Measure the BP Give them a drink, monitor any changes in BP. Allow them to again come to rest. Give them coffee, monitor any changes in BP.
Oh, I should have mentioned, make sure they drink coffee in the first place?....
