Have anyone else had problems with the latest Firefox update slowing down their browsing?
I'm using Internet Explorer (for the first time in years!) to post this, because Firefox just keeps lagging.
I've run Malwarebytes and Spybot, cleared my cookies and temp files, cleaned out the registry and restarted my computer, but nothing helps. Internet Explorer is running just fine at normal speed, with no lag and it started immediately after the latest Firefox update, so I'm guessing there's a problem with it.
SD, I'm looking at you for info on this one, since you test stuff for Mozilla.

I will have to get back to you on this one, as the latest update has refused to settle here on my firefox, and I am still trying to work out of it is problems at this end.
I may have one or two add ons that have not updated that are slowing my copy down.
As of yet, I am trying to work out what is causing the problem....

Seems like I might lose som important stuff by doing that, so I'll wait for SD to get back with a possible fix. Thanks for the tip though. If whatever SD comes up with doesn't work, I'll go down that road.

"Prune" your add ons.... My slowdown is due to a single add on that has not updated, now it has been updates all is fine... so far....
Check your addons and see which has an update, do that, and try again. If you are running Flash and Shockwave by Adobe, kill their auto update feature, as that always tries to update daily.

It's still sluggish after deactivating everything, both add ons and plugins.
I'm gonna try running a deeper scan with both Spybot and Malwarebytes, but I have this weird feeling one of those programs might actually be responisble for this lag. I installed both of them for the first time ever at around the same time the Firefox update was run. I'm thinking the so-called "immunization" of my brosers that Spybot offers might be behind it, but we'll see. If the scans don't turn up anything, I'll try uninstalling both programs and see if that helps. If it doesn't, there's something wrong with Firefox and I'll (reluctantly) have to use IE until the next update comes out and it's hopefully fixed.

Just updated and it's still slow.
Started up task manager and found that my computer was running 12 processes called svchost.exe. I know it's a Windows thing and I know it's supposed to be there, but I can't imagine it needs to run 12 versions of the same program...

DO NOT cancel any of them.
SVHost, Service Host. If you look at what services are running in the services menu, [start][settings][control panel][admin tools] and then [services] it will give you a complete list of services that are running. They run through svchost.exe, cancelling any of those will stop that service, and if you stop the one [for instance] that runs the internet, you will lose your connection?....
If you are unsure of some of them, google the process name first. Yes you can run without wireless services if yours is the one computer hard wired to the router, but you cant run without windows update, some are useless, some are essential. If you are unsure, change the run to Manual, NEVER disable it, until you are sure you dont need it.

Okay... Started in safe mode and am just seeing if typing is still as slow as usual. Doesn't seem to be, so there might be an add on slowing me down.
Now it's just a matter of finding out which one it is...

Just turned off hardware acceleration and that seems to have done the trick. Guess it's my GPU acting up because of old drivers. Problem is, I can't update the drivers because I have to install ATI Catalyst and that goes wonky during installation every time. Guess I'll have to live with that then.
Thanks for the help. Seems like everything is "back to normal" now.

Important Update...
I suspect you were using the latest update version of Spybot search and destroy.
I have put forward suggestions to people who know better than me, who have just got back to me thanking me for my concern, and are now asking I do further research on certain lines..... It is suggested that we BOTH are suffering the same result and indeed Spybot may have "Upset" something in Firefox.
I must make it clear that BOTH camps are "Investigating"....
It is not certain that it is actually spybots fault, or even Forefox's fault at this time, but, since boith Oziris and Myself had similar experiences with updated versions of both programs, and, importantly, that sinec removal of spybot here has "Cured" the problem, it is indeed worth further investigation....
My I take this opportunity to say thankyou to Oziris for bringing this to my attention, it adds weight to the community concerns about the interaction between the two software packages, as we are not the only ones to raise concerns.
I suspect there will be updates soon to try to rectify the problem.
However, at this time, I am cancelling Spybot at this end, as it has also interfered with my Internet Security package, which has similar functions... Not that I am in any way decrying Spybot, it is indeed a worthy package, its just having two internet security devices doing the same thing causes problems.
I am now going to run my test rig with just Spybot and Firefox to investigate further and report back to the beta test sites.
