This has come up from a discussion I was part of, and it got me thinking.
Moth balls in Petrol....
I know early in the shows career Adam and Jamie did a show concerning Motoring myths, with an engine they removed and placed on the workshop floor, to test sugar in the tank and other myths about car engines.
I know the covered Moth balls...
And got "Plausible" (If I remember rightly?... its been a while since it was aired...)
But they only dropped a few moth balls into the tank to see what would happen, and after a little stutter, the engine, which by now had warmed up a little anyway, sort-of-started-to run slightly better..... It was left at that.
Can they go back and do a deeper investigation to just what there could be in Moth balls that could be used as any type of petrol additive?....
I am sort of changing my own estimation from Plausible to Doubtful on this, because Mothballs are a solid object that do not as claimed raise the RON (Research Octane Number) of fuel.... anything added would therefore have to be dissolved in petrol... "Dilution", if anything that would DE-crease the RON...?.....
If what is in Mothballs, namely Camphor, is a useful fuel, why am I NOT seeing it as a fuel anywhere?.... Or is it something else?

Redo request on Sugar in the tank.
In the above mentioned episode they tested Sugar in the tank. It had a "Busted" rating, because the engine they used did not stall..... However....
It has been suggested that the idea of Sugar in the tank is a gradual process, it builds up as toffee in the working of the hot engine, and gradually chokes the engine, by repeated heat and cooling cycles. It may take a day or two to have effect......
