Okay, I know, most of this show is not testable. Time travel, regeneration, aliens, and other magical things are way outside reality.
However...
Can a "Sonic Screwdriver" really do anything useful in real life?
Yes, it's a fantasy device--really just a magic wand with the serial numbers filed off. But could sonic energy actually do something like open a lock, or shake a screw loose from a door hinge? A handheld device is probably not possible, but could the MBs replicate the effect with a strong enough vibration?
I know the military is testing sonic weapons, and some clam shell packaging uses sonic energy to seal the package.
Any other myths out there from the freshly resurrected Time Lord's multiverse?

More from the classic era, but alien planets always look like a quarry in southern England, or Mike Jaggers castle.

If it set up sonic vibrations, it could vibrate an object "loose"..... So can that be used to move things. Plausible.
I doubt however you could get that much power from a hand held object... Well... Not with today's technology anyway?....

I don't know--look at what they accomplished with the Tesla resonator. They didn't bring down the building, but they did say they had more response than they expected.
Maybe something like one of those ultrasonic probes used by dentists? Could it work a screw loose by itself, in a timely, controlled manner?

From what distance?... If touching, then, yes, sonic toothbrushes are supposed to clean your teeth by the same vibrations. But from a distance?.. I think the power loss over distance would be substantial and therefore the effect negligible, because if you can clean your teeth by just turning on the toothbrush and looking at it, my kids should have the cleanest teeth on earth?....

I think to give it the best chance, the distance should be allowed to be reduced to as close as physically possible without direct contact.

so, next question - as in curiosity rather than challenge - how much torque can it develop?

I have no idea if this is relevant to this thread but according to Doctor Who Cannon/Lore, The Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver is $hit when it comes to being used on anything made of wood (including doors).
