My new job has an inventory tracking system that is the best software that 1980 had to offer. It is a totally test base system that I spend a LOT of time working with. Part of it is there is a bunch of very repetitive keystrokes sequences. Example. I could have an entry of "+0809s55+20123+n" then keypad enter button, normal enter does not work. There are 6 strings that I use on a regular basis. I'll put in each string maybe 20-30 times a day.
Is there a way to automate this? Either a way to program a hot key to send a certain string of keystrokes to the program. Or beter a external keypad that I can just hit a button and it will send it all at once..

Logitech has a number of "gaming" keyboards that allow you to program special keys with macros. I have a model G-19 that has 12 special "G" keys on the left side. Each key can be programmed with three different macros. The macros can be as long and complex as you want to make them. There are three bank select buttons along the top that select which macros are available on the keys. A nice feature is you can program the color of the keys to correspond to which macro bank is selected. I don't think Logitech still makes the G-19, but I know they have other current models that have the same features. I think the G-510 is a more recent modelThen there's this thing. It plugs into a usb port and each key can be programmed with a macro. It's a little pricy though.www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276186&CatId=536

If you just want a software solution, something like THIS may work for you. Or maybe This one.

I was about to mention Programmable Function keys.... But got beaten to it.
Guess who has a Logitech keyboard....
Also, I use something similar in something I do... A "Low Tech" solution as I dont use it often enough to be reprogramming the keys all the time. But I have use of two screen, which makes it easier, you can do it with one screen by use of the tabs button to bring up the required window.... I have a notepad window open on another screen and a couple of "phrases" that are in common use put on that notepad, I then copy and paste them into place. If its a long complicated phrase, it sure as hell saves time, especially with the ones you frequently miss-type....
Is that any use to you?...
