Flash player (Shockwave, Adobe, whatever) now is version 18, all lower versions are being actively blocked. Remember to remove that tick from "install macaffeee (unwanted) Security check", otherwise you just get a load of bloatware that is nagware in disguise to fool you into installing a rival anti-nasty. and version 18 has the "on XP, halt" subroutine...

I am sticking with this one, it "works", it does more than I need, and I always have Pi. currently, I have two computers: this one, and the one that does what this one doesn't do, and will go to Mrs TLW when I get the replacement for this one.

the new computer has been ordered. they should have it built for me in about a month. I assume it will have 10 already installed on it? probably not. it will be shipped with 8.1 and then I will take it to the fire station the next friday and upgrade it to 10. then I will start the process of migrating this computer's data to it. with luck it will only take me one weekend before I can turn the Dell over to Mrs TLW.

I've had a lot of problems with flash crashing in Firefox. Flash has also had security concerns for some time. Better off without it.

Did a little further checking. Seems my Firefox automatically updated to 47.0 a few days ago. In order to use HTML-5 to play YouTube videos, you have to either disable Flash or not have Flash installed at all. Problem is, a lot of websites are not set up for HTML-5 and still require the Flash player. I still have some problems with Flash locking up Firefox even when not playing videos such as when a Weather Underground tab is left running in the background. Weather Underground apparently uses Flash to play radar loops.

Open your "process explorer" or system notifications, to see whats running, then open some random you tube video... Notice anything?. In mine, the "container" of "Plugin-container.exe" under Firefox doesnt start up every time with this new update, for you-n00b video. This makes video load and run a lot quicker "Off the bat", and uses less system resources to do so?.. Open another site that has video, daily motion [dotcom] or something like that, and immediately that plugin container thing starts up... That plugin is the one that hangs, because it HAS to use flash, and load up the shock-wave player as a plugin, instead of using html-5 web based player. Or so the plan is....
If you goto our own "Video you have to share" thread, for me, it has always been a thing that unless that container thing is already active from other video, the page has been slow to load, because the container has to load into memory, so try a fresh visit without that container active if you can?.. you may note that the page of video's, even if you dont play them, load up and display a lot quicker, if they are all from fake-n00b type sites that allow html-5 player.
Please get back to me and let me know what you notice?... if it has no discernible advantage to you, I can "report back" to Mozilla. The idea is to get a smoother running firefox, less 3rd party bloatwear, and therefore a faster internet... Which has to be good for everyone. If this works, I can see other browsers copying the idea.
The idea is that the you-noob video should run better and stutter less in HTML-5 because they dont need to buffer as much inside the container, the shockwave player has always been a bit buggy, and prone to hacking, which is why it updates so frequently. Its mostly the shoickwave [edit, the typo there for shock-wave comes up as "sick-leave" on my spell checker which raises a smile here?..] shockwave thing that is doing the stuttering, and a LOT of that is its incessant need to "Phone home" to check for updates every single time you use it... Being that you dont NEED to use it from now on, you wont have to update it what seems like every week, and you wont have to have that shockingly awful sick-leave piece of adobe bloatware "Active" all the time soaking up system resources...
Also it means anyone using the TOR browser can now see video without having to load up sick-leave... And in that way, certain video dont get "Region blocked" and unavailable at any time outside the u-s-of-a. Which many people can see no reason for. Its either on the internet or it isnt?.. why is it available for anyone as long as your not outside USA?...
Another good reason for this is that google dont get to "permission block" me from seeing video if I dont want their tracking cookies all over my computer.... Heh heh heh.... Soak up THAT one Google.
However.... Weather Underground, if you have that active all the time, then yes, it will load up the plugin container. Perhaps you could feedback to the apps makers and suggest HTML-5?... Diss-able it temporarily for purpose of above checks if you want?.. turn it back on afterwards?..

Adobe flash player, if you have it, update it. There is a new version because of security risks... again... But its worth updating if you use it. If you do NOT use it, either update or delete?... In Firefox, [ctrl]+[[shift]+ for add-ons, update those you use from there.

Be advised -
There are reports circulating that individuals all over the world are having issues logging into Hotmail and Outlook. I myself had issues just now, as I spent half an hour across two devices and two browsers (Chrome and Firefox) trying to even get to Hotmail, only to be told that the DNS address couldn't be located; this was when all other websites I tried - including Microsoft-owned websites -were working.
I tried to live-chat with tech support about the issue, but halfway through the conversation the other side went dead for an extended period... at which point a second person (I could tell by the sudden shift from perfect English to broken English with gross misspellings) took over and went out of their way to deny that the issue was on Microsoft's end.
My guess is that there's some issue with Hotmail / Outlook right now, but Microsoft doesn't want to take public responsibility yet since it's only sporadic right now.

Which is why many of us who dont have it terminated it with extreme prejudice in the first place. I thought they fixed that many years ago?.

just in case one of your relatives isn't bright enough to check, Onecoin, claiming to be the new bitcoin, is just a big piramid scheme and should not be given any cash for "starter"packs etc....
It's started by a romanian "professor" that has already once before been accused of similar scams.
