my dad also has ratcheting open end wrenches in his collection. slightly different cut than this, but you see the principle - it only grips the nut in one direction.

As someone who spent a lot of time fixing his bicycle as a kid, I'm a fan of dogbone wrenches. Here's another take-off on a "bone wrench." I have one of these that I keep in the tool kit in my Jeep. It has 8 sizes of sockets and it's a ratchet. The only negative is it's a little bulky for use in tight places.

A Spanner is a fool who cant get the right wrench, a wrench is what you do when you pull to hard.
He is a proper spanner, he wrenched his shoulder out on that fridge.

Try this.... The jaws are adjustable. I have a couple of different sizes in my own collection, its an adjustable and its a ratchet as well.. Good for the nuts you cant get to easily and then cant see to get the right size on anyway?...

Just curious if it's prone to slipping off a nut or if it can really hold onto it.

It's also too large to get into close spaces. I found that bone type that I posted earlier more handy but even that is a little bulky.

It's all down to lubrication, of course.
