Simply, the bottom rims of the .303 overlap, either overlap "one down one up" where the whole rim is either above or below the next rim, or over the top of the previous every time... Pictorially, the rims are either _-_-_ or \ \ \ \ \ Does that help?... So, we're talking about the rims of the cartridges here, how they're placed in the clip and if one of the two placements you mention has an advantage over the other? In the clip.... as you press them into the cartridge, they sort themself out anyway. Its just that "Some say" one way is better than the other. I disagree. The SKS is a 7.62, I dont think the rims are wider than the cartridge that much are they?... Some pictures, 7.62 "SKS"
typical .303 this one is a blank, but same rim size as "normal", a bit wider isnt it?...

You mean pressing the catridges from the clip into the magazine, right? Semantics, I know, but since we've already had the discussion on whether there's a difference between a clip and a magazine, I thought it would be good to clear that up, so there's no more confusion on what's what. Whether the two types of cartridge placement make a difference, I don't know. One way might make the rims catch each other on the way down, creating more resistance to the push, but I couldn't be certain without trying it myself. I've never handled cartridges like those, where the rim is wider than the rest of the casing, so any guesses on my part would be just that: guesses.

Exactly, I cant see any difference, and from my own experience, there IS no difference, so, I am asking, why the argument, and why the "Myth" that one is better than the other. Can it be put to the test by someone with more experience than me?.. as in, more recent than about 20 yrs back when I had opportunity to try both.... I dont do any .303 at the moment. Cant find a decent range within reasonable distance.... Unless I go back to the forces.

well, that would explain why the rims don't overlap. I would expect the half lap with the bottom back in the clip (\ \ \ \ \) to feed smoother into the magazine.

I played around with some ammo and clips: I was able to get them in the clip over/under,stacked, and even stair stepped up and down. Will need to go to the range next week and see if one orientation is easier/faster to,load.

I would think one of the things I would do to prepare for a mad minute attempt would be to get dummy rounds and spend a few hours just cycling the action and reloading.

Oscar, Thanks for the input, please do let us know if it makes any damn difference at all.
BTW, I like the worktop... what is it?... I think its some sort of hardwood, maybe Walnut or something like that?... anywhere close?.. the marbling could be stone, but the end grain sort of indicates a wood?...

Wow... absolutely .... I presume its "New"?... I do like what you have done. The worktops, yeah, Oak, that wood do it (pun intended) and the laminate on top being a waterproof layer is a bloody good idea, and its absolutely brilliant. Did you build all that yourself?... The stone floor, is that stone, or very good laminate tiles?.. easy clean, nice.. I like the idea of the sink, I presume those are fridges back there that we can see, and through that door, it has its own on-suite.... Excellent. If you tell me you have your own glass washer back there, .....priceless. Now I am going to also presume there is a 60 odd inch display for the big match somewhere in the plans..?... Comfy couch as well?.... Some bar stools..... Nah, ignore me, I aint ever presuming we have the same tastes, you do it YOUR way, its obvious you know what you are doing. And whatever you do, I still like it anyway... When's opening night?...

for my part and my interests, there are fabricators who make custom faceplates for electrical devices out of stone you provide. are you going with that option?

Since this photo installed a foot rest and bar stools. One of the bar stools is from a bar in Findlay Ohio my grandfather and father frequented back in the day. Movie theater seats/couch. Also a kitchenette in basement with a mircowave/conventional oven.

You put in a traditional footrest?.. the all round bar along the bottom to rest feet on whist sat at the bar?.. You are legend. Just lovin' your work, its kind of what I would do if I had a basement and the time....
