This is an old myth, but I don't believe it's ever been tested on the show.
The general idea is that when someone is lost, they will often (to the point of being claimed as "almost always") circle back and end up where they started, or at least very close to it. This is also a very popular trope in books, movies and TV, where a sentence like, "I feel like I've seen that rock before," has been used many times over.
Supposedly, this phenomenon is even more clearly visible if someone is blindfolded in an open field and sent walking. In this case, the claim isn't even that they will "almost always" walk in a circle and start circling back very shortly after setting off, but that it's more or less a universal rule, like there's something built into human beings that make us do this, whether we want to or not.
This one makes for some fairly simple testing, but the part about getting lost without being blindfolded might be a little time consuming. Especially if they're going to test the "almost always" claim, since that would require multiple runs of getting lost and calculating an average of how many times each test subject circles back. It could be done in a day with plenty of volounteers, though, but the question is how entertaining it would be to watch a bunch of volounteers walking aimlessly around a forest or large building with many similar looking rooms...
Thoughts?

Blindfolded, you cant walk in a straight lie, tested, confirmed.
Lost... different matter.
And yes, it has been sort of proven... People lost will walk in a circle looking for something they recognise?. Or is it more than that?
If you were lost on a city street, would you "Circle the block" looking for something of notoriety that you could recognise?...
Personally, I would just ask the first person I saw. I may be unique as a typical male driver that I have no feelings at all towards being "Directionally challenged" as some may put it, it doesnt matter to me, there is no pride thing, I just stick my head out and ask, as it generally saves time.
However.... London and other "big cities", I have learnt that the more expensive the suit the more they are liable to pretend you dont exist and just soddin' ignore you?... Pretentious Prats. No wonder the upper classes get a bad name for snobbery Hey look, thing is, I recognise you now, and if you are there in that suit at the side of the road with a broken car, guess who WONT be stopping to lend a hand?...
What goes around comes around...
And there is nothing funnier than a twonka with a expensive suit at the side of the road being greeted by waves of laughter by passing motorists that on now way on earth or if hell freezes over are going to stop....
There is video somewhere from a dash cam of someone who stops for a broke "supercar", walks over, has a look, and just says to the owner, (A pretentious prat) something like "I only stopped to look inside, never been this close to one before" and just gets back in his car and drives off..... I almost wet myself laughing at that one.
Drive in circles?.. I have done that. I miss-read a signpost, so went round the roundabout twice to have a second read, I have turned round and gone back to re-read a sign post that was sort of obscured, not wanting to miss the turning.
So at this point, I call plausible that people will circle either on purpose or by nature to have a second look at where they are in case they recognise either the way forward, or way back.

Wow... Thought I'd seen every episode at least twice, but I guess I'd missed this one. Back to the drawing board

Moved as this was actually tested on Mythbusters by Adam and Jamie after this was initially posted.
