Gun Control, Controversy, so keep it clean.
Please.
I know we have gone back and forth on this subject before, and as a damn limey, maybe I should keep my beak out of it, but, its going to be big headlines soon in USA, so, as a disassociated interest person with equality in mind, can I mediate here between both sides and ask for a dispassionate frank discussion on the subject here on one thread with all eyes on the mods who may close this down at a moments notice.

So, from all the sources there are out there, I see editorial.
I see Ideas.
And I am reading between the lines, over the lines, under the lines, behind the lines, and I see SENSE....
From what is on offer, the general idea Big-O has is one I have floated myself.
Its the idea that there should be some form of limitation..
I went further to suggest strict licensing controls, but hey, that can be bought in as well here...
What is needed is some form of control that says "All you sensible people have nothing to fear", and some form of control that isnt all abut who's got what, but is all abut who ELSE has got that, and should the National Security Services be worried about that?...
We have seen reports that certain "Gunmen" are "Known" to local authorities as possible risks, but, under current law, until they do something illegal, there is no law that prevents then being Armed.
So, Dangerous is one thing, but ARMED and dangerous?... its legal.
That is until the break the law.
By KILLING of seriously wounding someone.
The idea is that it would now be illegal to be dangerous and armed....
The very sight of someone considered dangerous to other people armed is enough to "Do something about it" before they injure, thats Before and not after?...
Yes I also agree with that amendment that you should have the right to bear arms against aggressors.
I question the same right if you ARE the aggressor.
May I return to Seat belt laws in UK.
In UK, its is now a legal requirement to wear a seat belt in all vehicles with one fitted.
Its not the law abiding citizen or safe drivers that are the problem, its the foo--- fur- Flip-king IDIOTS out there that are the problem, and making it a legal requirement for EVERYONE to wear a safety belt has saved more lives on both sides of the sensible fence than any other safety device we have encountered so far, up to and including air-bags.
Yet I hear a lot of chatter from American Car forums that some people just dont want seat belts....
From a country where it is now second nature to belt up every time you drive, I cant understand why.
I am indeed alive only by the grace of the seatbelt that would have seen me thrown through a windshield in my first year of motoring and a couple of times since due to other idiots on the road.
My Son is joining up with a Gun club....
For that, we will probably be positively vetted for membership, yes, WE, because I want to go join him at some point....
(Just to see if I still "Got it"!... )(I used to me "marksman" level RAF and Private range back some 30 yrs since...)
So what?...
I do have nothing at all to hide, so, they wont be looking at me any more than they will take note "Nothing of interest" and then move on to the subjects that maybe they SHOULD be worried about?...
I presume that any Gun Club in the USA with a range probably does the same positive vetting to keep the nut cases out?..
The idea that everyone who wants a weapon should take that to a national identity thing is what?...
Do you know how much information is stored about you with your Driving Licence?...
Or your Passport?...
You expect they will keep anything different than that with a national GUN licence?..
Unless, of course, you have something to worry about.
The idea that it wont stop illegal ownership....
Illegal ownership of Vehicles in UK is a problem.
They kill.... on occasion...
However, the fact that they ARE illegally owned allows the police to stop, apprehend, question, detain and even charge the driver, whilst confiscating the vehicle, and if no legal owner can be found, have it destroyed.
One less illegal car of the road is one less death....
It may take many many many years to even dent the number of illegal guns in the USA, but, if you dont start somewhere, you can never tell how that will affect daily life.
Until its too late?...
Or has that already happened?...
Because I see claims that its already at "Pandemic" proportions....
I am now going to get off the soap box and let someone else have a stand.
If perhaps between us all we can come to some sort of idea as to how to get "Somewhere" with this, then perhaps someday it may even get noticed and used....
But we wont know until we try....
So can we work together on this, without falling out, have some good natured arguments to and fro and see if there is an "Option" somewhere.
Please.

(CNN)President Barack Obama grew emotional Tuesday as he made a passionate call for a national "sense of urgency" to limit gun violence.
He was introduced by Mark Barden, whose son Daniel was killed in the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Obama circled back to that shooting in the final moments of his speech.
"Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad," Obama said, pausing to wipe away tears.
He added: "And by the way, it happens on the streets of Chicago every day," referring to his hometown where he began his political career.

The President blasted the gun lobby, particularly the National Rifle Association, and insisted that his actions are "not a plot to take away everybody's guns."
He compared his push for gun control to steps the United States and businesses have taken to limit traffic fatalities, require fingerprints to unlock iPads and keep children from opening bottles of aspirin.

"I believe in the Second Amendment, there written on paper, that guarantees the right to bear arms," Obama said. "No matter how many times people try to twist my words around, I taught constitutional law. I know a little bit about this. But I also believe that we can find ways to reduce gun violence consistent with the Second Amendment."
Yes I also agree with that amendment that you should have the right to bear arms against aggressors.

Ryan said in a statement. "He knows full well that the law already says that people who make their living selling firearms must be licensed, regardless of venue. Still, rather than focus on criminals and terrorists, he goes after the most law-abiding of citizens. His words and actions amount to a form of intimidation that undermines liberty."
