This weekend I had the pleasure of going to see The Tempest in the Sam Wanamaker Theatre which is part of the Globe theatre complex in Londons Bankside. It is an amazing space if you ever have the chance to see it yourself, a small intimate theatre for a few hundred patrons illuminated by candle ligh. Where we sat the actors were only a few feet away from you . www.shakespearesglobe.com/support-us/sam-wanamaker-playhouse

No honestly without the extra lighting for the photo shoot it is very intimate, the capacity is only 340 people and in the dark environment it seems less. Perhaps this gives a better idea of scale.

But compared to the big London Westend or New Yorks Broadway theatre with much higher capacities 340 is still on the small side.
