According to The Hollywood Reporter, Science Channel will be running a reality competition to find a new host or hosts for MythBusters. The link in the article to the Science Channel website didn't turn up the additional information they said it would, but I saw this on a Discovery Channel retweet -- I doubt they'd promote a hoax. (And it's a day early for that anyway.)

One part of me is intrigued, but another just says, "Leave the MythBusters concept alone and come up with something new instead".
Antigone, I know you keep up on Adam's Twitter feed sometimes. You seen any reaction from him?

maybe we should apply en masse (by which I mean as the citadel of myths, not as a bunch of individuals all at once)

I do know that the Build Team (Tory, Kari & Grant) are currently filming a show for The Science Channel that they are unable to talk about in detail simply referring to it as THE SCERET SHOW.
BUT Tory & Kari do occasionally post pictures from the new show on their Facebook accounts. Maybe the show that they're currently filming is the revamped Mythbusters everyone blabbing on about. Alternatively talk of bringing the show back could be a nasty April Fools Joke.

Reading that, it sounds like a low budget version of the show. I guess C4 is expensive, to say nothing if Jamie's and Adam's salary.

I have to say I am not terribly inclined to want to watch the competition show for hosts nor the rebooted version. Part of what made MB what it was was the hosts' chemistry. Adams gleeful childlike curiosity is much like many of us have, and Jamie's practical ability to make an elegant yet simple solution was what we dream of. How can anyone best that?

I'm inclined to agree, but still... If they can find a new team that can carry on the spirit of the show, but do it in their own unique way and not just by trying to copy Adam and Jamie, it might be worth it. We'll find out soon enough.

Adam & Jamie made the purfect scientific Odd Couple & the Build Team's quirky personalities & talents complemented each other perfectly. Throw in a few big explosions & add Buster the Ultimate Fall guy into the equation & you had the purfect show. The show had just the right mixture of science & entertainment (humour). It's going to be impossible for anyone outside of the show (ie: not one of the original hosts or Build Team) to recreate the show's magic. The only way I see it working with someone new is if they have some of the old team on the new show (like when they replaced Scotty with Grant). It's the ONLY way for them to try & sell the show to the public.

At this rate, I would imagine that casting a few of us might be better than a bleeping reality show.
Not only could we each be considered "experts" in at least field, no matter how eclectic, we've all got a respectable amount of skill, experience, and training in multiple fields that we could rely on as well as our various hobbies.
And if memory serves, most of us have at least one institute of higher learning nearby, be it a skilled trade education facility or a full-fledged university, that could be a source of anything from volunteers to a co-host. And we all, based on the conversations we've had, "know a guy" or five... hundred that we might be able to contact as a possible outside expert for myths that we ourselves aren't quite qualified to handle on our own.
A few of us are even lucky enough to live in areas where office or retail properties are reasonably cheap, allowing a possible M studio (even if the builds there have to be low-key so as not to irritate the neighbors).

This thread is now looking at being the next great question after who will replace Top Gear.
If it can be done, I WILL watch and lend my support as much as I can.
Simply because I cannot allow this to be the very end of this.
I have been there ever since I caught the replay of the very first show, about half a week from it being broadcast, (UK of course..) and thought "That looks interesting".
I simply had no idea how much of my life would be changed by the show.
I cannot fathom out how such a huge hole could be left by not trying to fill it?.

If they reboot the show with or without any of the original hosts I'll give it a go but if it's *CENSORED* I'm not watching it past the first month.
