Chromantics
"Color Ur's World"
Premise:
A tyrant named Fulton MacIntosh has seized control of the planet Vega. Fulton is so absolutely convinced that everything is black & white that he passed a law trying to literally erase any color that isn't white or black. Colors that cannot be changed, like the blue sky or yellow sun, are ignored. Jobs and professions are restricted so that the existence of colors is concealed; for example, only mechanics can legally work on cars because the fluids are colored, and only people who have been sworn to secrecy can be mechanics. Even discussing the presence of grey is a tricky spot.
Helping him in this endeavor is a large network of ANITA (Automated Neutralizer, Integrated Tactical Assistant) artificial intelligence computers, which work Big Brother-style to suppress and erase all knowledge of anything having to do with colors as part of the process of making everything black & white. All alternate opinions, points of view, or anything inconvenient is suppressed, often by force. Each region has its own ANITA system, and there are fail-safes to mitigate matters if one should malfunction.
Ur, the player character, is a college student. Ur's life changes one day when a young professor gives him a copy of a book on colors, a book written by a revolutionary group known as Chromatic. Ur is so stunned by what's been in front of him the entire time that when a high-level official comes to address the college, Ur blindsides him by revealing to everyone the existence of the book, the colors contained within the book, and the fact that the government has been suppressing all knowledge of them. One of the official's security goons physically attacks Ur, leading to red blood on Ur's white clothes. Ur has enough presence of mind to point this out, something that sews further confusion. Ur is ultimately saved when the professor detonates a flash-bang grenade, sending out an array of colors no one can deny seeing.
After this, Ur joins Chromatic in their quest to awaken the world. At first, missions are simple. Plant a red rose in the middle of the governor's flower garden. Take his turn on guard duty while Chromatic holds an illegal class in do-it-yourself mechanic work. Paint a statue gold. Et cetra.
Things change when Chromatic learns that all existing television sets, computer monitors, and movie projectors have the ability to display color images; the manufacturers never removed this ability. This leads to efforts to hijack everything in an effort to get color images and footage out to the public, setting in motion an ultimate showdown with the regional ANITA system and the governor's goons.
