there is a science fiction book called "Fallen Angels" that also plays with the idea of opposing climate forces - in this case, the idea that global warming is countering an ice age.

It was also used as a gag on an episode of Futurama. I read an article over the weekend talking about 91 new volcano discovered under the Antarctica ice sheet. Basically the southern end of the ring of fire. Some are currently dormant, but others could go active. This could have profound effects on global climate. If some of them were to erupt, we would be looking at the following: 1. It could melt a large part of the ice sheet. That would raise world sea levels. 2. It would cause a breakup of a lot of the remaining ice which would then float though out the southern oceans, resulting in cooling of the oceans. 3. Volcanic ash would cause additional climate cooling. www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/12/scientists-discover-91-volcanos-antarctica

Which would then be affected by the warming of oceans elsewhere by volcanic activity... hence the circle of current usually found in the Atlantic, often caused by trade winds, would either speed up or reverse directions... That could be fun, the whole of the Atlantic a gigantic whirlpool?...
I am about a thousand feet above sea level, do I start ordering Gopher wood just yet?..

The main difference being one is man-made and the other nature made. which means that unless you accept the opinion of certain people, there is something we can do about the one.

We could do something about both of them, except it's not nice to fool Mother Nature. She has a bipolar personality and will turn on you in the blink of an eye.
